I would'nt hike in combat boots, even if I had them. They're heavy & They don't "breathe" You can get a pair of waterproof, insulated, lightweight boots cheap ( under $30.00) at WalMart. Any good hiking boot should also have "Lug" soles which give better traction and don't collect mud.

if you're hiking a rocky terrain, then I would say yes and have a pair of combat boots that are fine for the rocky mountains in colorado.
get a good pair of cushy sock and make sure they are well broken in. should be fine.
if you just hiking trails and not too rocky, just get a good pair of tennis shoes.

if you are serious about hiking, one thing you might want to take into consideration, comfort. i strongly reccomend buying a pair of hiking boots from a red wing shoe store. they aint cheap, but they are the best.

NO, you can get much better hiking equipment than those, but if it's all you have just make sure they are broken in or you're in trouble my friend.

yeah. their grip pattern and durability are good for recreational hiking. just make sure that they are waterproof. then you'll be covered on all bases.

You might want to get some good insoles for them too. A lot of them don't have much support.
