Why did Catholics in Northern Ireland in recent decades kill Protestants including women and children? Should this be an indictment of all Catholics worldwide? What about some of the notorious serial killers in the US -- if they be Christian or Jew then does this condemn all of those of the same faith as being monsters as well? I think that there are fanatics in every religious group. There are people who are not religious at all but are grouped with a specific religious or ethnic group and their action drag the image of the entire group down.

Why did members of the Christian religion burn women at the stake, hang black men, and kill countless other people?

It goes against the teachings and, as we can readily see, many cruelties are done in the name of religion.
