I've been using dermalogica a lot, and for a while my acne went away, but now it came back..in the same place. I don't have unusual skin, a little oily but pretty normal for a teenager like me. Does Dermalogica work for you, like am I just using the wrong solutions? I'm using cleanser, toner, moisturizer, medicated clearing gel, and exfoliant. Do you use Proactive..or what? I HATE my acne!

There are a lot of people out there more than happy to take your money for promises of relief.
I work in the cosmetics industry and can tell you first hand that the active ingredients in those fancy expensive acne medications that have over paid celebrities pushing them is the EXACT same thing you find in cheap products like Clearasil...SURPRISE!!!! Now stop giving these creeps your money!
Truth is, the best thing you can do is not go over board with product. Remember acne is a wound of sorts so if you are scrubbing the hell out if it and applying all kinds of chemicals you may actually be making it worse!
Your goal is to keep too much sebum from building up and keep your pores clean and as open as possible. Washing your face with a with soap and water is a big help. Try putting a washcloth soaked with hot water (not enough to scald or burn, be reasonable here. Just very very warm) and wrap your face in it for a few minutes. This is going to open your pores wide, then go ahead and immediately wash it with warm soapy water. That will help. I know its nothing fancy or some miracle cure but some times the simple things work best. Too much fiddling around will actually be counter productive, cause swelling, irritation and redness.
Your best weapon is time, it will pass. I know its hard trying to fit into the image that the media forces you to. Screw the media, you are fine the way you are!
Now if it is causing scarring and is out of control, see a dermatologist and they will prescribe you Retin-A. If its just "zits", that's just part of growing up.
Good luck.

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

you should not purchase Proactive. It is just fancy packaged benzyl peroxide, salacylic acid, and glycolic acid. I would recommend simply using the generic store brand of benzyl peroxide (5% aqueous base), and 2% salcylic acid. that will work just fine. Becareful not to apply benzyl peroxide to your back or anywhere that comes into contact with clothing because it will bleach your clothing. Also, you should use at least 15spf sunscreen since acne medication can cause an increase in sun sensitivity. The acne medication can also dry out your skin so it is recommended that you also use a moisturizer. For the benzyl peroxide, start out with applying to affected area one time a day. if tolerated, can increase to 2 times a day. if not tolerated, then can decrease to 1 time every other day. Be sure to apply it to clean dry skin.

you are what you eat, i am a believer in eating your way to a heathier life .and you start by watching your salt and sugar intake, take regular exersise, drink plenty of water, check on the amount of fruit you eat stay away from junk food, they dont call it that because its good for you, fatty foods can cause an oily skin, clean skin with washing in a simple soap rinse in clean cold water, if there is a steam bath or sauna in the area make use of it, once a week for a month, then tell me you have not noticed a reduction in your facial blemishes. good luck regards LF

Only your dermatologist will know what works best for your skin. Some things work for some and not others. I found out if you have a red pimple and you put visine on it, that makes it better, takes the red out of the pimple too.
