A religious group from Northern India. Their theology is similar to Hinduism. Almost all of them have the last name Singh. Their male members have a very distinctive dress: long beards, turbans, and swords. People often mistake them for Muslims because of the turbans. Sadly a few Sikhs were murdered in the US after 9/11 because idiots thought they were Muslims because of the turbans. This is actually very ironic - the Sikhs originated from a warrior caste which was formed for the purpose of defending India from the Muslims. This was around 1200 AD, if I recall correctly. If not for the Sikhs, India would be a predominately Muslim country today.

The Sikhs are a very interesting religious group originating from NW India. Their teachings are a mixture of Hinduism and Islam.

You can probably find a book on Sikhism at your local library. They are an interesting community, to say the least.

We have some Sikhs in our community. They are really nice people.
