Why, oh why, are there roundabouts with 2 lanes that give you a choice for going straight from either of the 2 lanes? This is annoying as i see daily incidents of near collisions between vehicles, and people trying to race so they come out first on the other side. I understand this may reduce traffic at busier roundabouts but i am talking about small non-congested local ones. One lane should be for staright or left turns, and the other for going right. Anyone agree?

I don't think there are roundabouts like the ones you stated. Just drivers who don't know what they're doing.

If there are 2 lanes leading to this roundabout (assuming it's a mini with standard 4 exits) the left lane is for left turns AND straight across - no indication needed - and the right lane is ONLY for turning right.

If there are 3 lanes, depending on the size there can be any combination. If the roundabout has 5 exits then yes the left lane AND middle lane could be for "straight ahead" which is more off to the left which in this case makes sense. Usually this type has 2 lanes to exit so drivers don't collide leaving the roundabout. I think this is what you're talking about but you shouldn't find these anywhere near a miniroundabout or really anywhere other than under a flyover.

Of course it could just be that some drivers have poor lane discipline. Who knows?

Ok listen up

as you approach a roundabout with 2 lane , decide before hand or you going left or right, if your going right, singanl right, stop at the line give traffice on the right of way, if its clear, than go round, l

if going left, keep on the left hand lane give a left indicator, if going straight ahead, keep on the left is well, with no indicator, thats how it must be done, I'm a driver and I know, and always read the high way code hop this helps

At peak times the is probably a lot of traffic turning left, this allows traffic going straight ahead to use the right hand lane instead of queueing. If drivers apply the rule of giving way to traffic on their right and not racing then it is not a problem.
The highway code states that you can use either lane for straight ahead.

In all uk Roundabouts except lane markings point out or you should use the Left lane for all exits as much as and consisting of 12 O'clock purely point out as quickly as you have surpassed the go out earlier the single you're taking. If taking an go out after 12 O'clock ideas-set interior the perfect hand lane point out as though turning top then exchange indicator on passing go out earlier your go out

Absolutely agree i have seen on many occasions people in the left hand lane going straight over, and at the same time people in the right hand lane turning left, seems many people have no clue about lane discipline.

I have never heard of anyone else making the same complaint about roundabouts, the current rules seem sensible to me. If the rules were changed as you suggested, accidents would likely increase due to people ignoring the new rules.

Perhaps your frustration should be directed at the people who assume they are entitled to drive however they see fit, who rush around over the speed limit and who drive onto roundabouts and other junctions without first stopping and checking to see if it is same. If all drivers were alert, courteous and careful there wouldn't be a problem.

I agree. But I have a sneaky feeling it was designed by a bloke. A woman would never have come up with something so confusing!

You're not anywhere near Blackburn are you, it's alright if people know it's there and expect it but for someone who doesn't know the road it's pretty dangerous - especially if it's not at all junctions.

Do not agree .I suggest you learn the "Highway Code." which is relevant to your country where you are experiencing your frustration.Just a thought;could you be at fault?
