I have noticed a pinprick rash on my face and hands appears after I have been in direct sunlight for a long time. I was given steroid cream but not too keen on using it often. Has anyone experienced anything like this and have any suggestions for preventing it from occuring again?

Wear sunscreen. Always. Stay out of the sun as much as possible, even with sunscreen. Some medications or conditions increase sun sensitivity, or you might have prickly rash, like others said. You're right that you should limit topical steroid use--if you use it for too long, you can get skin thinning (I know--it's happened to me after using some types of steroids for psoriasis and it's not cool to have your skin just break open and start bleeding on its own.) So avoid what causes the condition--then you don't have to use steroids to treat the condition!

If by "pinprick" you mean a freckle type of thing you have the beginning stages of skin cancer; however it sounds more like a rash more commonly called a sunburn. At least that's how I interpreted the question as for how you wrote it. If it is cancerous you need to talk to your doctor A.S.A.P. I would only talk to a doctor after the methods suggested here start failing to correct the problem. A simple sunburn will clear up in about 2-3 weeks with or without treatment have fun.

I work in a pharmacy, if I had a £1 for everyone thats come in with this, Id be very rich!

Its prickly heat, ie too much sun!

Wear higher factor sun protection, avoid mid-day sun, keep hydrated, if you do get it, stay out of the sun for a couple fo days until its gone. Just cover up the affected areas and it should go away.

Aloe vera gel works wonders to sooth it, dont bother with calamine as it makes it dry.

YES use a high factor sun screen or total sun block, stay out of the sun for long periods, aclimatise skin by starting of with half hour sessions build up to longer periods, stay off sun beds, be carefull you could end up with a nastier complaint than a rash. regards LF
