DLP uses millions of tiny mirrors and a mechanical color wheel to produce an image. Plasma TV uses millions of tiny phosphors each containing an inert gas. Both have their pros and cons:

DLP
- generally less expensive
- bulb may need replacing every few years, but becomes good as new after replacement
- not flat panel; its form factor is either as a rear-projection console (about 15" deep, so it's still thinner than "regular" CRT TV's) or as a front projector.
- crisp image with no "screen door" effect--looks very movie-like
- bothersome "rainbow" effect occasionally perceived by some people (including myself); new LED DLP's (which eliminate the color wheel) promise to minimize that effect.

Plasma:
- flat panel
- generally more expensive than DLP's of comparable size and resolution
- phosphors degrade over time--a plasma TV's lifespan is believed to be about eight years of regular, typical use.
- risk of burn-in of static images
- gets pretty warm/hot when turned on

Having seen both in action, I'd lean more towards DLP; the image quality of DLP tends to be better than most (except for the most expensive) plasmas.

There is a big difference between plasma and DLP (there's no such thing as a DLP plasma). All plasmas are flat screen, but DLPs are all projectors. The projectors are bigger (but not heavier) overall than the flat-screen plasmas, but the same size plasma uses more power. Picture quality of both is excellent. New DLP projectors have higher resolution (1080p) than current plasmas (720p), as well as cost less in the largest sizes. Take a look at the sets in a store to decide what you like better.

There is no such thing as a DLP Plasma TV becuase the picture would look bad if you mixed DLP Projection with Plasma Display.Digital Light Proccessing is made for projection.Plasma is made for HDTV display. In the end,Plasma HDTV is better.
