I don't think so but it has never ceased to amaze me how many Christian's concider the right wing, capitalist parties to be more "Christian". I don't see how. I think that socialist ideals follow the Bible a lot more closely. The first Socialist party in Canada was started by a Baptist Minister who thought that Health care was a right of all citizens and that workers should be protected by law. Then I see these lovely church folks who think they shouldn't have to pay tax because they give to charity. I think that it is more Godly to allow people to keep their dignity by paying them enough to live on and and having social programs that free people from having to worry about paying to send their kid to the doctor when their sick or what to do if they get laid off work.
I spent two years in a theological college listening to people try and justify Capitalism. And I will never forget the looks on those kids faces when one of our teachers told them he was a socialist. It was beautiful.

They are very compatible. The most capitalistic country (USA) was also one of the most Christian. We are now not as capitalistic as we onfe were (welfare state), nor are we as moral or religious.
Simple principles:
1. God the creator created each and every one of us for a reason. Some to be holy, others to be actors, musicians, businessmen, politicians, cooks, etc. In the parable of the talents it is clear that we ought to find out purpose and maximize our potential.
2. We were created individually. Thus the best society is one that allows each of us to freely accomplish our purpose, or lack of it, in life. Society should not forcefully take from me to give to another. It should be my choice, and I think we would do much better than the govt.
3. However, capitalism under a Darwinian philosophy of pragmatic survival of the fittest is a problem. Under Christianity, a moral foundation is provided.
Thus, not only are they compatible, they are synergistic, and greater together than separate.

Capitalism lets people focus on what they want. Some people are more focused on doing business to help others whereas some people want to help feed the sheep.

The Bible also teaches that we are to be good stewards with what God gives us, and that we are to use what he gives us wisely. It also teaches the importance of hard work ("Go to the ant, thou sluggard"). Only in a capitalistic society does all that play together. The problem comes when you start getting for the sake of getting instead of getting for the sake of using.
