I owe a TON in student loans and taxes. If I move to Canada and gain residency, can the U.S. creditors (Sallie Mae, US Govt.) garnish my paycheck?

Nope the U.S. has no power in that regard. The CIA however can slip in and drag yer butt back but I doubt if you are worth the effort considering they are too busy in Iraq making sure there is no peace with their terrorist activities. We love everyone in Canada and will accept you as one of our own.All you have to do is drink a lot of beer and fart a lot and be apathetic.

Yes, because you as a person owe the debt, not just because you are an American citizen. As long as you have a social security number, you are responsible for your debts.

But you could always call them and set up payment arrangements to try and keep them from garnishing your paycheck, but usually garnishments is the easiest way to pay because you don't have to think about it.

I would move to Canada anyway, you never hear about Canadians always being involved in wars and fighting. It might be peaceful!

Let me get this right, You run up bills and then run away, STUPID.
Sure go to Canada, we don't need you here. I hope the Canadians accept you asap. Good riddance. I would try to understand what kind of person you are and persuade you to MAN UP and pay what you owe, but the fact that you are even asking this question means you are a waste of skin. good luck sucker

Depends on whether or not the state that you are coming from and the province you are going to have reciprocity agreements.
If the agreements are in place you could well be garnished once they catch up to you.

i be responsive to the minimum month-to-month charge is $50.00. If it is going into default and that they garnish, i be responsive to That they can't tak all of it, relies upon on your income and what you declare on your taxes. i might see a tax accountant/lawyer approximately that one.

No, it just means you're a total jerk. Who do you think pays your debt when you don't? We do. But I don't supose people like you really care WHO they hurt.
