I think it is written "Judge not lest ye be judged. But judge with righteous judgment." I believe it means find out the truth first before making a judgment.

The same chapter that says "Judge not" also says of the evil, "by their fruits ye shall know them." (Matthew 7)
Someone has said, we are not judges but we are "fruit inspectors".
This same chapter also says when you have gotten the beam (plank) out of your own eye, you can see clearly to get the speck out of your brothers eye.
This chapter does not teach that there is not a judgement to be made, what it does teach is that YOU are not the standard for that judgement and you should not elevate yourself to that level. Judgement is to be made based on God's word.
John 7:24 says, "judge righteous judgment."
If you believe anything to be true, correct, right or moral, then you automatically must believe that which oposes your position to be untrue, incorrect, not right or immoral. If you do not believe the opposite of your view is false, then you do not truly believe what you claim to affirm!
If you don't think anything is false, then you cannot hold anything as true. In otherwords, you don't believe anything at all. If one thing is true, then something else must be false.
We all believe some things are true. The problem is what you use as a standard for determining what is true. Is it the Bible? Is culture? Is it your own desires?
Anything less than the Word of God is the wrong standard! Jesus said to the Father, "thy word is truth." (John 17:17)

I'm not sure what you mean by judge. I'm going to go ahead and assume you are speaking to Christians since you are referring to the Bible. I need to see an example of a Christian judging a non-Christian on their morality or what they believe. I haven't seen it in here to be honest. (That doesn't mean it isn't happening.) I just have a suspicsion that what you are calling "judging" really isn't. Most of the judging that I see has come from non-believers aimed at Christians in the context of name-calling.
When a Christian states what they believe, "that Jesus is the only way of salvation," it may imply to everyone that every other religion is false, but that is not a judgemental statement. It is a statement of what we believe, or we wouldn't be Christians.
If people here are going to make (judgmental) accusations about other people's behavior, they should be specific and give examples to examine what the truth really is.

Those few who actually believe the Bible is the word of God, do not judge others. So if the people of the church you attend do judge, I'd suggest getting away from them.

I have got to blog on this topic. It is the most common question here.
Judgment is not bad. It can be, and that is why the Bible records Jesus telling the hypocrite religious leaders not to judge.
But Jesus also said in John 7:24 Do not judge by appearance but judge by what is right.
And the reason Christians judge other Christians is found in 1Corinthians 5:12.
Listen, judgment is critical to your survival. You judge who to be friends with, what kind of work to do, who to work for, what neighborhoods to avoid, etc.,
You judge the church, the Bible, and God usually without knowing much about any of them.
I whole heratedly encourage judgment, albeit with close inspection. Without it Christians would have to check their brains at the church door.
The verse everyone quotes is almost never quoted fully and nearly always taken out of context. The way it is intended to be used is; do not condemn unjustly.
By trying to avoid using your judgment you are endangering your spirit, and sometimes, even your life. Think of Jim Jones, David Koresh, Heavens Gate, Charles Manson cults.
Judgment is over used sometimes. We are cautioned to judge sparingly and with righteousness. This does not mean pious as we understand it today, but with care and knowledge, not easily and carelessly. But right now in America, this one misquoted verse has created a sort of fad against common sense.
When a church abandons the guidance of the scriptures, they are capable of believing anything. So we examine their stated doctrines and their practices to determine if they are walking in adherence to the scriptures. This doesn't mean we hate them, it does mean we will not encourage newbies to fellowship with them. It does mean we will not accept any message they teach without examination of the scriptures again to see that it aligns with God's direction.

The reason Christians judge is because they think it makes them look good in the eyes of their fellow christians.
Non Christians tend only to judge and criticise when christians try to dictate or preach to them.
Everyone should be free to believe and worship what they want as long as it does not impact adversely on others. Sadly Christians see this a challenge. Ever noticed that almost no other religion is so critical of others?

We are SUPPOSE to recognize falsehood, false teaching and error.
If you don't make a value judgment on what people are promoting you are susceptible to deception.
According to the Bible we are to judge everything we hear by the Truth found in God's Word.

While you shouldn't judge others I am afraid people do judge a religion by the way people act who belong to that religion.
If that religion lies and tricks people, it gets a bad reputation.
If that religon kills and rapes and hates, people get afraid of people who belong to that religion.

Some boys are brought up to believe they should stay with their mothers forever. Some women are brought up to believe being beaten by their husbands is okay. Some people are brought up to believe that they should slaughter the infidels.
Judging, aren't you.

I don't judge people I'm just shocked that some believe in nothing after death but rotting. When someone tells me there is not God then it is rather confusing. I don't judge them tho I feel sorry for them
