Most supermarkets can't sell venison. Try calling a meat packing co. that butchers deer. They may have some to sell. Some people take their deer in to be processed and forget it. In some places its illegal to sell wild game.

How "gamey" the venison tastes, depends on a couple of factors. The age of the deer, and the diet of the deer. Deer that live near agricultural areas and eat alot of corn, grains, etc. have a far less wild taste than do the deer that primarily eat acorns, pine bark, twigs, etc. Also, younger deer tend to be more tender and less wild tasting than older deer. As for cooking..... If the steaks have a somewhat gamey taste or are from an older, tougher deer, I prefer to slow cook them in a crock pot with some sort of a tomato or mushroom soup. This will help tenderize and lessen the game taste. Another option is to marinate the steaks in the fridge over-night in some variety of salad dressing or marinade. I find that a garlic-italian salad dressing works well. The steaks can then be grilled, baked, or slow-cooked in the crock pot. If the steaks are not strong or overly gamey, I like to just toss them in a pan with a little butter and some seasoning. With deer burger, you can also do a variety of things. I use mine in chili, making stuffed peppers, spaghetti sauce, etc. Cooking deer burger this way reduces the gamey flavor. If I am making burgers....I usually mix with fresh ground pork or beef since deer burger is VERY lean and does not hold together that well when pattied by itself.

There used to be a high-end supermarket in Cambridge, MA that had frozen venison sometimes, or maybe it always had it....I would try "foodie" type places such as Whole Foods.
