My one cat had kittens and now there are 6 cats to take care of. I can't afford to care for them properly and they stay outside, so more cats will result - should I just get rid of all of them?

Geez - let me explain people! I'm not an animal killer or an animal hater. It so happens that when I took the kitten in so that someone else wouldn't harm it, and I bottle fed it to keep it alive I could afford it. But shortly thereafter my husband became ill and couldn't work anymore, and now I'm sick and struggling to take care of him and my two kids as best I can. Any of you want a kitten since I'm obviously not even worthy to look at them anymore?????

Yes, take them to a shelter that does not put them to sleep if they are not re-homed. Shelters also spay and neuter cats before re-homing. I am sorry you have found yourself in this situation, poor you, it's a tough choice but between them breeding and breeding or possibly getting sick and taking them to a shelter, the shelter is a better option.

Wow. If you knew you couldn't afford to care for them properly you should have never gotten a cat. So now you have these 6 cats...who wouldn't exist if you had gotten the others spayed and neutered like a good pet owner. So now you have kittens and you just cant cope with the thought of doing the responsible thing and getting everyone fixed and taken care of. Cats aren't something you get rid of. You get rid of a shirt thats too small. cats aren't disposable they are living creatures. You don't deserve to have pets. Never adopt another animal again. And do your cats a favor and at least look around and find a no-kill shelter. That way at least they have a change at life. Its kitten season and hunderds of cats and kittens are killed everyday because of irresponsible people like you. Shelters are full and most animals only have a few days to find a home or for their owners to come get them before they are euthanized. You should think about that.

My first question to u is Why didnt u neuter ur cat specially since its an outdoor cat? When u decided on taking care of this cat it was ur responsibility to neuter her..if u had done that then u would have to deal with kittens..u might as well take the kittens to the shelter since they are very young and there is a good chance they will get adopted..as for ur older cat i wouldnt take it to the shelter because adult cats didnt have as much of a good chance of getting adopted..but please think about neutering ur cat and avoiding this whole situation of kittens...theres enough stray cats out there and in shelters...we dont need to add more to it....please do consider this and if u do decide to take them all to the shelter take them to a NO KILL shelter...thats the least u can offer them is the promise of life...

Start with getting the mom cat fixed, that was your problem from the start. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's true! If you had a child would you get rid of it if you couldn't afford it? Find a home before you have them killed... I'm not a believer in animal shelters. I got my two cats from someone that couldn't or didn't want to care for them, and they are the BEST cats. I can't imagine them being killed because they weren't wanted... how sad!!! Please try to get them a home before you bring them to shelter, ask your vet when you take the mom cat in to get her fixed before it happens all over again (she could become pregnant again while nursing her kittens)

Yes. I would suggest the Humane Society....or just a local no-kill shelter. Giving them away yourself would be time-consuming, but the worst part is that you can't be SURE if the cats are going to a good home. Shelters do background checks on every prospective adopter, and kittens will be adopted out just as quickly from there as they would be from you. So don't fret, they'll be fine:) And get your cat spayed ASAP. You'd be surprised how quickly they can get pregnant again after having a litter.

If they are still very young they would have a great chance at getting adopted if you take them to an animal shelter. Kittens and puppies get adopted very quickly (usually). If you decided to try and find them homes on your own, whatever you do DO NOT OFFER THEM FREE TO A GOOD HOME unless it is someone you know. Charge something for them, even if it's just a few dollars. If you offer them free to a good home there's a chance that an animal testing facility will get them which would be horrible. Hope this helps, and good luck finding them homes!

NO! Put an ad in the Greensheet, it's free up to 15 words. That is what I did because there was a stray cat who had kittens under our neighbors mobile home. Animal control took the mom because she was sick and we kept the kittens to try to get them used to people. Now we are advertising in the Greensheet to find them good homes and not call animal control on them. We are getting them fixed and also de-fleaing them.

Please take them to your local Humane Society. It does not cost you anything to surrender your pets. And they will ensure that these animals are fixed before they go to a new owner, so that over population can be controlled. They will find a good and loving home, and kittens find homes quickly, so get them there soon while they are still young.

And consider taking your cat in to be spayed when she is able to (after just having a litter) it will make sure you don't have this dilemma again in the future.

I suggest finding new home for the kittens... rehome them with a $25 fee and use that money to get your cats fixed!

why spay/neuter? :
According to the Humane Society of the United States, "an estimated 3 to 4 million cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters yearly. The average female cat has three litters per year with four to six kittens per litter. In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats." Spaying and neutering can decrease these numbers and create healthier cats.

Yes...the kittens and the mother should all be surrendered. This is what happens when people get pets and can't afford to get them spayed/neutered. If you keep the mother around and don't spay her, you will be doing this a lot and killing a lot of cats that can't find homes. You will be doing the right thing for yourself and the cats by surrendering all of them.
