Sometimes true forgiveness and true love precisely call for pedagogical "punishment". These sorts of "punishments" are actually not so much punitive or grudging but instead are done out of love and for the sake of the punished one's growth and healing.
The teaching of the Church is actually that Adam and Eve were expelled from Paradise and allowed to undergo various afflictions and hardships for their own betterment and well-being.

basically, there are two gods; the god of the old testament and the god of the new testament.
if you compare the two side-by-side, it's like jekyll and hyde. one's loving and generous and the other one's always pissed off and smiting things. there are all sorts of contradictions you'll find if you read the whole thing. doesn't make sense, does it?
here's where we come in; HUMANS wrote the bible and the way they wrote was indicative of the times they were in. so what it comes down to is this: were they watching CNN or Fox News? everything in there is a mere interpretation from one guy or another.
also, when you think about it, most of those people in the old testament were poor and uneducated (notice it's the rich guys who knock him off?), making it far less complicated to tell them they'll be punished than to tell them they should be good just because they should. a lot of people today still don't get it.
i still think some of the basic tennents of catholicism are good, but you're right about the vengeance and punishment thing. they're outdated beliefs that really don't hold value in our society today.
put the bible in the fiction section and call it good.

Your teacher must have just learned from Jesus teachings. "Love your enemies.., offer another cheek if the other side was slapped and going two miles more if one forces you to go one mile with him... if someone throw a stone at you, throw back a bread instead" .....those are complete reversal of Old Testament teachings of "an eye for an eye and tooth for tooth"....the religions have mistakenly took the Old Testament teachings as a kind of revenge or to fight back. Yes it could be true as if it is teaching you to put the law into your hands but the real message to that says that you must not allow evil to win over you at any time. In Jesus teachings, the reverse had happened as in literally the evil has spread almost uncontrollably because instead of putting hardened criminals to the death chambers they have more privelege of sleeping with clean bed sheets and a sure meal every day. They are even given the rights to complain for abuse of powers by the jailers specially here in US. The religion also are forces to reckon with as far as "no to death penalty" for any criminals no matter how many lives they have killed. Are you not wondering therefore, whose side is winning in this world since the teachings of Jesus was used?
Everyone in the Old Testament was punished not only Adam and Eve but down to the last King that disobeyed God's Law. Because the old book speaks of two things from God. His Blessings and His Curse... Deut 11:26 -28. It will make sense to you when you read that because you will have a choice to make... the right or the wrong..the good or the bad.
Then, Jesus came and reversed all the teachings of the law as written in Moses, the book of Psalms and the writings of the Prophets although he said he came to fulfill it and not abolish any but he started by the breaking of the Sabbath Law and claimed himself to be "Lord of Sabbath". Read 2 Samuel7:13-17 and 1 Chronilce 22:10 regarding how someone can be called Son of God and God will be his father and what punishment will he receive once he breaks His commands. And it does make sense why Jesus has to suffer from the hands of the Jews and then die a horrible death. I am a Catholic too but these things where not taught to us...intentionally. I do not want to confuse you more but if you want...take time to go this website.www.thename.ph

When Adam & Eve were created, they had a pure relationship with God and full dominion over the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:15-25). They also had access to the tree of life, which would allow them to live forever. Once they ate the forbidden fruit, they gained knowledge of sin and their relationship with God became impure (they became ashamed and covered themselves - Genesis 3:8). Because they now held the potential to sin, they had to be removed from the Garden which contained the tree of life (imagine if they were able to live forever in their new capacity for sin - the human condition would degenerate yet continue to reproduce to no end). Although it seems God is punishing them, He is also caring for them, making coats of skin to protect them from the elements of the world that is now against them.
Genesis 3:21-24 - Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever. Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Remember, God's ways and thoughts are higher than ours, so often it's hard for us to understand His plans. But through Christ, God made provision to bring us back into a pure relationship with Him. 1 Corinthians 15:22 - For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Corinthians 15:45 - And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
A lot of times we say something has been "made up" because we simply don't understand and can't answer the question. But our fallibility does not change God or His word. The answers are there, we just need to seek them with a pure desire for truth.

Your teacher was wrong, if she said that. There's a lot of false teachers running around these days.
The sin of Adam and Eve had a lot of very unfortunate consequences, which made immediate forgiveness impossible (at least impractical) until God himself could step in and fix things.
If you're really interested in learning all the details, there's a Catholic Resource CD available that explains it all in very simple and understandable terms.
Get permission from your parents, and send me a shipping address. I'll send the CD out to you via airmail, at absolutely no charge.

Poor Adam was doing just fine..... but was a little lonely..Eve came on the scene a little later..... God said DON'T EAT THIS FRUIT OR YOU SHALL SURELY DIE..but you can eat anything else in the damn garden.... The serpent tempted Eve.... by saying.... come over here baby and eat this fruit.... and give Adam some too.
Then you will be as wise as God..Eve was so sexy but didn't have the brains to say no...she also was blond....well you know what happened after that.....
"O" Wise One......says stupid Eve

Jesus is God, and He is our Heavenly Father also. Okay, that being said, Jesus treats us like children. When we disobey He punishs us, that's what Adam and Eve did (disobey God). He does forgive when we do wrong, just like father would, but you must teach right from wrong and THAT's what God does. No, he doesn't hold grudges, but GOD is sinless and he has to punish sin, but He loves the sinner. Or else He wouldn't have died to save us!

solid question. that's as a results of the fact all the myriads of angels have been counting on. the subject became what devil the devil introduced out. He became no longer created wicked; he became that way while he desperate he had to be worshiped. Adam became a suitable guy. as a result, to redeem mankind from sin and dying, it took an equivalent sacrifice. which ability Jesus coming to earth as a suitable guy and dying. That became the sacrifice. even nonetheless, Jesus now's a amazing king in heaven quickly to take over rulership on earth. Adam and Eve have been punished because of the fact they lost out on eternal existence and have been placed out of the backyard of Eden. With that reported, His unique objective would be executed while the entire earth will become a paradise, governed by ability of a heavenly government. For scriptural communicate you could e mail me.

As a parent I always forgive my child when they do something wrong. Does this mean that I don't punish them for doing it? Not at all. Proverbs 3:12 says that God corrects those whom he loves, just as a loving father. We do not correct other people's children. If God does not correct you when you are doing something wrong, it is probably because you don't belong to Him. "Happy is the man whom the Lord corrects" Job 5:17

I'd quit to!!!!
Let us say that that teacher, was not much of a teacher! Course they were not taught well either!
The Adam and Eve story is true, but its deep study!
God does not punish, but discipline is a better word, of course your dad says its discipline but butt still hurts!
And sadly many will be destroyed in the lake of fire
