Even if it is legal, you shouldn't do it. It's inhumane. Would you like to be chained up all day with little or no human contact? My neighbor has her dog chained up 24/7 and it rarely has any human contact. As a result, this dog has no manners whatsoever...jumps on everyone. As far as the laws go, every city has their own restrictions...call your city hall, and they can tell you. As far as your dog goes, take it to obedience classes and let it in the house! If that's not an option, you need to find it a new home that will actually care for it.

If it is illegal it would be a local ordinance that covers it. Your dog will probably bark all day long and that usually is regulated by local ordinances.
Most dogs are very unhappy to be excluded from human company, so it is inhumane at least. By chaining it outside you will be doing nothing to train him to be a good pet and companion for you and your family.
You need to get busy training that unruly puppy and having more patience and understanding because he is just a baby.

Australian Shepards are very smart, very high energy dogs. They need to be stimulated and properly trained or they will act out and become destructive. I bet if you tied him out, he'd just start digging up the yard.... if you do not have a very active lifestyle an Aussie is not a good choice for you.

I personally think it is wrong and cruel to keep a dog chained. Dogs want to run around and be interacting with their humans. Why don't you fence your back yard or get those invisible fences? Also if you dog is unruly, get him (& you) in obidence training classes.

If you don't have the time and patience to train your dog and work with him, then you should probably give him up. Chaining your dog up all day long is not going to make him behave better, it will only frustrate him.

It depends on where you are in California. Yet another ridiculous law making it harder and harder for people to own pets. I would have left California by now, if I lived there. Place is pretty much a lost cause for animal lovers.

It's a rule all over the world that you aren't allowed to chain a dog outside. It is cruel and if you need to chain a domestic animal on a chain, then you shouldn't have one.

This law has NOT passed yet, have been reading about it in the paper. If it does pass-there are going to be a lot of people in violation and a lot of dogs in the pound!!! Many dead dogs!!! My dog has never minded being tied up-and I must do so often for her own protection. Hope this stupid legislation gets shot down-they can`t afford to kill all the dogs they do now...

some cities have such laws...you would have to check at the court house or where you get your dog license.
