I was diagnoised by my rheumatologist 5 yrs. ago. I was wondering how others also handle their daily pain? Anyone else have that daily pain in different areas?

I take 800 mg. of Aleve and a 1000-mg. flaxseed oil capsule every night at bedtime to ensure that I'll be able to walk the next day, and I take Arnica tablets (a homeopathic herb) for pain flareups as needed. Check out the links below and please let us know what works for you!

I have fibro pain in just about every place except my head and torso. Started in my legs when I was 6 years old, and spread from there. Started having real trouble with my hands at the age of 16. Diagnosed with fibro at the age of 27, after a VERY bad pain flare-up that left me bed-ridden for several days. (I'd never heard of fibromyalgia before -- I grew up thinking I had arthritis.)

I don't take meds for it. The only medication that ever helped was muscle relaxer, and I can't find a doctor who will prescribe that or anything else. (Apparently, the latest excuse is that chronic pain -- in my case, at least -- is caused by mental retardation. I tell you this to illustrate some of the stupid things that some people say about it. Don't fall for it, and don't let it get you down, but be warned that it can and probably will happen to you sometime.)

Water exercise is good, as long as you don't push yourself to the point where you hurt from doing it. That's the important thing -- stay as active as you can without causing more pain. Walking 5 miles a day won't cure your fibro, and it WILL make you hurt a lot more, for a lot longer. I've been told that cycling is good, too.

I have hobbies that help distract me from the pain. I saw a lot, and read. I try not to push myself past my limits -- hard to do on days when I'm not hurting and think I can do things like I used to before the condition got so bad, but I always end up in a lot of pain afterward if I do that.

Find a support group, or a supportive friend. You're going to need that (if you haven't discovered that fact already). Firbomyalgia isn't caused by depression or stress, but being around people who think you're "crazy, lazy or making it up" causes stress that makes the condition a lot harder to cope with. Having friends who understand is a BIG help with that. For me, it is also a reality check -- my friends keep me from doing things that are bad for my health, and they keep me from listening to idiot doctors like the one who said I'm retarded and then getting depressed over that.

My mother suffers from fibromyalgia and I'm undergoing testings to determine if I suffer the same. I see my mother and she is constantly in pain. Myself as well. out of a month I may have 1 week that is a good day. Unfortunately, not a lot of people are educated with this illness and ignorance can get frustrating, so keep your head up. It's not an easy daily routine to get use to.

I have Fibro (since I was 11. 24 now) I have the nasty all-over-my-body pain. What helps me, and this may sound a little silly, is Yoga and a good bunch of hobbies! Meds don't help me much, all they are really good for is upseting my stomach. I have learned that getting my mind off of my pain is really the best medicine of all.

Yes, I have fibromyalgia. I had to quit my job two years ago as I am in pain every day. It is aggravated by degenerative joint disease as well. Rest, water aerobics, aspirin, and exercise, such as Curves help me the most. My pain is worse if I sit around. Hope you find some relief soon. Cindy
