mucho depende del pais de donde vienen, en algunos sitios "te quiero" tiene un sentido muy profundo, casi como "te amo", en otros se puede utilizar mas amenudo sin darle tanto significado....creo q lo mejor es q se lo pidas a quien te lo dijo... de todas formas no serà casi nunca tan poco como "i like you"

If the two men are non-native Spanish speakers they might not really know the meaning of the phrase " te quiero". We say "te quiero" to telling parents, siblings, relatives and friends we love them. However, the phrase " te amo" is a hard one to say because it means true, pure and a huge feeling. Sometimes people who find hard expressing their feelings use " te quiero" for example with their parents when what they really want to say is " te amo".
If the guy told you "te quiero" he may mean that he starts feeling love for you. However he's the only one who can give you the true answer.

Well, quiero comes from querer- it means to want, to wish and to love sometimes. But the one that you would like to hear is te amo, amar- means to love.
So te quiero- I more than like you, te amo- I love you.
But, why don't you ask the boy what he really meant by saying that?!
He'll give you the best answer!

It's "I like you; a lot" Te amo is a little more. I mean, literally if you look at it's "I want you" so it's that carnal liking, it's not that profession of love quite yet, but it's a little more than just like... as for why someone would say that after two dates... the mysteries of life...

te quiero is i love you. you usually would say that to friends, family, boyfriends, girlfriends. te amo is i love you, but its a very deep, strong love-- something you would say to your husband or wife, and in this modern world it would be something you say to a long-time (years) boyfriend or girlfriend deep in the realtionship when you're very in love.
