They are not necessarily more intelligent. They are more logical. I haven't seen many running around posting ridiculous and pointless dribble.
Just the facts...(most of the time)

Well, why is it that atheists tend to be young & single? Studies have shown that people tend to become more religious after age thirty, or after having children.

I noticed that really intelligent people have trouble accepting anything that they cannot personally understand -- since everything else comes easy to them. Since many questions about God, life, and existence have no quick, easy answers, most intelligent people turn their back on philosophy and religion rather than admit that there is some subject, or something, out there that may too difficult for them to fully understand (it is a pride issue, I think).

People of lesser intelligence or education have no problem in taking things on faith, because they use things everyday that they cannot fully understand (like electricity, or an internal combustion engine). Rather than try to understand everything, people of lesser education assume that the "experts" have figured everything out already, and that they take the experts word on faith that something will work as advertised without requiring absolute proof or complete understanding.

...Some of the studies primarily deal with unmarried high-school and university students, and other studies show people become more religious after marriage and children. A recent Gallup International survey indicates this is international. It showed that levels of atheism decline after age 30 while self-description as "a religious person" rises....

I think more intelligent people are slightly less likely to just accept something on faith or because of tradition. A smarter person likes to think things through and find answers rationally, which doesn't quite work with deities which are generally there to fill in the holes in the knowledge of the ancient man that created them. Just my opinion. Atheists aren't smarter people, smarter people are just more likely to become atheist.

Because they use common sense, logic, evaluate and think before they come to a conclusion.

Because one of the smartest men in history (Albert Einstein) didn't believe in the religious God. That is the God in the Bible along with most other scientist and educated people in our world.

They don't just follow blindly any old stupid thing someone tells them.

They are able to prove their theories with actual evidence and not 'faith'.

They are guided by intelligent thinking and not wishful thinking.

They don't believe in a God that got scared when people built the tower of Babel because he was afraid they would break into his house.

They don't believe in talking asses.

They don't believe that God is talking to them when they hear voices.

They don't believe that drinking holy water and screaming Hail Mary can heal their physical ailments.

If something doesn't make sense, they don't defend it to the death.

Lastly, because they don't believe in God and the bible.

If I may, "because they aren't" isn't an answer. "They aren't because they aren't." is circular logic.

I wouldn't say that atheists are necessary more intelligent as far as 'common sense' goes, or as far as 'book smarts' go. I know Christians who are smarter than I am. I do feel, though, that a lot of smart people are atheists, because they don't believe in the authenticity of a book without some proof of its truth.

Hmmmm... more intelligent than whom? Funny, I never thought of them that way... I don't think its very intelligent to reject the Source of your life.

Humanism is an ideological, political, and religious belief that denies the existence of God. Atheists are humanist, as are new-agers, and many others. The theory of evolution was developed by humanists to create a world devoid of God. Humanism today is prevalent in our media, schools, and government. The religious humanist believes, as the Humanist Manifesto states, that the religions of the world are outdated due to a vastly increased knowledge and experience, and are powerless to solve the problem of human living in this time. Christians know the power of God, but to the humanist the human is divine and must be responsible for furnishing adequate human goals and providing for the spiritual needs of today. Because humanists believe that the universe and its peoples are self-existing and not created, they believe humanism is the only religion capable of leading humans along the evolutionary path to "Christ Consciousness". In humanism there is no right or wrong, only experience and an endless struggle to become enlightened, to evolve.

Once again your arrogance blinds you to Truth.

"I would say that I lean toward the God of Einstein and Spinoza; that is, a God of harmony, simplicity and elegance, rather than a personal God who interferes in human affairs," Kaku muses. "The universe is gorgeous, and it did not have to be that way. It could have been random, lifeless, ugly; but instead, is full of rich complexity and diversity."
--Michio Kaku. (One of the world's best-known theoretical physicists)

I would bet your intelligence is not greater than any of the three people mentioned above.

If you mean it by book knowledge other than the Bible I disagree, I think Christians are just as intelligent. Now if your talking about the Bible, The devil knows more about the Bible and God than most christians do. Its sad but true.

What form of intelligence are you referring to. I think they may be smarter in living in the now but not smart enough to understand deep concepts that relate to power, energy, and synthesis.

I was not aware that they were. I know some stupid and some very intelligent people of all types of beliefs and non-belief.

Well, i am a non-believer and I appreciate most of atheistic people.

But I don't see anything special about their intelligence. It is a question of person, not of belief/non-belief, in my view.
