I have both. Kittens and puppies are both very playful, but adult cats tend to be less playful than adult dogs. Dogs by nature are pack animals and enjoy socializing, whereas cats tend to become more aloof. However, when I leave the leash on my dog and she runs around the house, all the cats chase it.

As kittens my cats were more playful (and very entertaining when they played). However, my dog is tons more playful overall. Now that my cats are adults, they basically sleep and eat all day (they outgrow the playing at about 1 year old). My dog is an adult and still continues to play every day.

It all depends on the animal. my cat is more playful than my dog, but there arealso a lot of lazy cats who just eat and sleep..same w/ dogs.. so it depends. But i would guess that in general there are more playful dogs than there are cats

Hello!! :o) At one time - I would have said that CATS aren't playful at all. But then I ended up 'babysitting' a friends cat for a few weeks. THAT cat loved to 'play'. Whenever I was in the bathroom - the cat would sneak up on me and swat my leg. I would then put my fingers under a running tap and splash a few drops of water on him. He would run like mad and within a few seconds - sneak back in and swat my leg again. LOL In the mirror I could see him peaking around the door to see if I was watching. And when I wasn't - he would tip-e-toe [tip-e-paw?!] in and swat my leg again!! Overall - I think that dogs are more playful - but that cat sure had a great personality. Craig!! :o)

I think dogs are more naturally playful and stay more playful as they get older. Kittens are very playful but an adult cat will just look up at you like "play? that's beneath me now."

Dogs without a doubt. If you find a playful cat, not kitten you have found a gold mine.

Cat's Diary
Day 183 of my captivity.
My captors continued to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction Iget from clawing the furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant.
Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded. Maybe I should try this at the top of the stairs.
In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair. I must try this on their bed.
Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little kitty cat I was. This is not working according to plan.
There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary confinement throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More important, I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of inducing something called "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.
I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit.
The bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant. He speaks with them regularly, and I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait.
It's only a matter of time.
