I know humans have free will and are responsible for our actions and whatnot, but what about the things that are out of our control? Is God responsible for things like insomnia, schizophrenia, mental retardation, etc?

O.K. First of all, if you don't believe God exists, I don't care.
Second, let's say hypothetically speaking Adam or Eve had a mental illness. Then who would be responsible?
Third, if somebody commited a sin due to a mental illness he or she had that was out of her control, would she be held as accountable as someone who commited the same sin of their own free will?

Wow. Look at all the stupid answers.
No, the devil is not responsible for mental illness. Neither is god.
I think, after many years of observation and testing, men in white lab coats and women in lab coats (albeit, sexier looking than the men) have determined that chemical deficiencies at birth or due to head trauma cause mental retardation.
A pregnant mother smoking a pack of cigarettes a day has more control over how retarded her child is than GOD or SATAN or whatever other fairy tale you cracked souls want to pin your own flaws on.

If there were a god I'd say yes. For each thing that people have control over in their lives, there are a dozen things that they don't...and one of them is genetics. People used to explain away mental and physical disorders as punishment for something either the victim of their family did. I would hope that we know better today...but superstitious religion still persists regardless.

Mental illness is caused by imbalances within the chemical flow between different cells in the brain. God doesn't exist. If he did, he would be responsible not only for mental illness, but every other problem in this world. He created human beings right? Free will is an illusion the brain works hard to create. Kind of like a schizophrenic's brain right?

I believe that we are responsible for how we and our children turn out.
If i drink, smoke, or do drugs while pregnant than that could cause problems for my child in the future.
Sometimes in life we are responsible for more than just ourselves, so the choices we make in life affect not just ourselves. I believe mental illness's are passed down. I beleive everything that happens to us is a direct result of our choices or our parents.
Remember this is just an opinion

Yes he is responsible for mental illnesses. Have you listened to George Bush lately? He's psychotic, paranoid, schizophrenic , highly delusional and a number of other things. AND he said that "God told him" to go to war in Iraq!
Btw if you believe that God created satan and satan created mental illnesses then he had to get these traits from the one who created him they just dont come out of nowhere.

God did create psychological ailment yet Christian lunatics call it "talking in tongues" Schizophrenic human beings listen and observe issues that are not there yet Christians declare that they see god and he speaks to them yet this is not a psychological ailment. Sin is responsible for mental illness. Rejection of Christ is the sin responsible. Do not blame God for anything. He is blameless because he is God.

God is not responsible, We, humans are the cause... came on now..... we put chemicals in our food that we eat, we pollute earth, pollute water, we infect our body with alcohol, drugs, inhale weird stuff...we are full of diseases and we take over the counter drugs and then to top it off we want healthy children or to live a healthy life...... Right.......!!!
if we want to blame someone...we must blame ourselves.... we are the cause, we are destroying ourselves.
