It's not odd at all... being judgmental is human nature. When one becomes a Christian, one begins the slow, longer-than-life process of (what theologians call) sanctification. Over time, the convert hopefully becomes more like Christ, as he (or she) is called to do. But since we are both mortal and finite, the process cannot complete during our lifetimes. Some people progress more quickly than others, perhaps ;-), but we all die still imperfect.

What makes it difficult is that the Bible has a lot to say about what it means to become like Christ. The instruction is there so that believers can encourage and (in a loving way) challenge each other, but because it's so easy to misconstrue the moral instructions as the *point* of it all (when the real point is the *pursuit* of the Christ-like life), we tend to go astray and chastise one another, even going so far as to trying to force moral codes on people who don't even believe in the first place.

In short, it's a syllogism: People are judgmental. Christians are people. Therefore, Christians are judgmental. :)

Christians are thieves - they try and tell you they invented morality and that it belongs to them. Nothing could be further from the truth. Christianity is one of the worlds younger religions and most of the moral codes were around centuries before Christianity was ever thought of.

The real reason Christians are so judgemental is because they think it makes them look good in the eyes of fellow Christians!

Sadly as a non believer or someone who disagrees with them if you turned the other cheek they would probably stab you in the back!

Funny I have run into many "christians" like this. So many are so quick to judge your lifestyle and tell you that you are going to hell. (if you dont believe me just look at some of the replies this comment will mostly get). For those of you out there that claim to be "Christians" and are judging other people and gossiping just because they dont live their lives the way you would like them to and dont bang the bible consistently and live an extreme christian lifestyle and believe in far out theories...get a life. And by the way behaving that way and prejudging people isnt very "Christian" after all now is it? Why cant people just focus on being good people and mind their own business...

It's not odd at all. Christians are human too. Though as Christians we should know that judging others is wrong, we are still sinners and need forgiveness, mainly for judging "the others".

Love is the answer - what ever the question!

It's not Christians in general, it's mostly American Christians. Notice that up to 200 years ago, Christians didn't take it for granted that they would go to Heaven. More recently, even Mother Teresa said before her death that she didn't know if she "would make it."

In the American wisdom of today, the concept of going to Heaven (and others going to Hell) has become all about a moral superiority. This is not surprising in a culture that holds that having an opinion and "standing up" for it is the most important thing in the world. A culture that won't allow discipline in school because each parent believes that no offspring of theirs could possibly do wrong. A culture that makes even the bad-guys in the movies appear as macho characters, worthy of admiration because of their healthy ego.

We live in a land where ego is king.

Not all people who call themselves Christians are real. You are judging me for what others may do. I live my life for Jesus Christ. As far as turning the other cheek, it is better to do so but as a REAL Christian God calls us to advance the kingdom. If I turned my cheek to everyone The kingdom of Christ would not grow. I wouldn't have the chance to help someone else. God Bless and Peace Be With You

there are Christians and there are hipoChristians. A real Christian does turn the other cheek. Just because someone claims to be Christian does not necessarily mean that they are

Christian walk in forgiveness when others hurt them. That is turning the other cheek. They discern to not do the same thing to others.

Judging others is a trait many humans seem to have to overcome in this country presently. Perhaps that comes from 'making one self 'look good'' (by comparing self to others); instead of comparing ourselves to Christ. 'Turning the other cheek' may be part of the difference between comparing to Christ, and comparing to others.
