I found a recipe last night for a pot roast in a slow cooker. I put in a two-pound pot roast, four small red potatoes, two sliced carrots, and quartered onion. I topped with a can of cream of mushroom soup and added some water since the meat was frozen when I put it in there. I'm cooking it on low all day. Think it'll be ok?

I didn't do anything with tomatoes because I can't eat them and everyone complains that as a result everything I cook is bland. So I tossed in onions and a can of soup to please folks a little more.

Don't forget to season with pepper, salt, and chopped ginger, garlic, and cilantro. Use cherry tomatos as garnish to add red to the presentation to make it more presentable.

Slow cookers make the roast extremely tender, and they are almost fool proof. Your recipe sounds great. It probably didn't need the extra water, but I'm sure it will be tasty.

Here's an alternative--you can also try a can of diced tomatoes instead of the cream of mushroom soup. Or, use barbecue sauce, or any number of liquids--mix half Orange Juice and half barbecue to get a citrus flavor.

Or, you can mix up the meats, like use a whole chicken, or spare ribs, or round steak.

Enjoy--slow cookers are easy ways to cook great tasting food.

I think it would be ok but did you first brown the roast? I guess you didn't becuase you mentioned that it was frozen. I don't cook to often with a slow cooker (I maybe used it 4 times). I made pot roast once and I forgot to brown it like it said to do in a recipe. It came out delicious but the coloring was alittle odd. To cover it up, I put a can of brown gravy on top.

You had me until you said cream of mushroom soup. The meat will make it's own stock, why not just add fresh mushrooms and some cream? And if you have kids, you should not use any condensed soups that are in that red and white can. They are not "Mmmm, mmm, good" anymore like when we were kids. The good stuff has been replaced by a large amount of chemicals and MSG (it's right there in the ingredients). Studies show that MSG in prepared foods had been a major factor in increasing the chances of obesity in children, it messes with ther glands somehow.

I cooked a wonderful Lamb pot roast in a slow cooker and think yours should be wonderful too, but you should have defrosted it fully before cooking.

It sounds scrumptious! I wish I had the forethought to do that!!

I'ts not necessary but you might want to add sliced mushrooms to the mix next time. (drained of course)

Let me know when dinner is ready!!!
