Depression is different from normal sadness or grief. Depression is a prolonged period of despair that can last for months. Symptoms can be different in different patients. Some will suffer from insomnia. Some will sleep too much. Some present with no appetite, others will overeat. Many will feel an overwhelming guilt and may be suicidal. Also when treatment is first sought (anti-depressants prescribed etc) this may be a real danger period for suicide, as the depressed person may have planned their death but been too depressed or tired to act on their impulses. There are other symptoms and related illnesses- for example some people with depression will go on to abuse alcohol or drugs in order to escape their depression.

Hope this was helpful.

Oversleeping, insomnia (can't sleep) loss of appetite or overeating, mood swings as in feeling elated and then very sad the next. Hope this helps.

Feeling depressed. Not giving a F**K about anything or about stupid things. In more serious cases weight loss, suicidal thoughts etc , there are many and they are different for each person, the state of depression is not easily classifiable. If your asking the question, it's time ask , how can I sort myself out.
