A good way to get your lures down if you don't have down-riggers is to use Dippsy Divers or Pink Ladies. The Dippsey Divers are directional so you can set them to run off either side of your boat by adjusting them. Keep your speed about 2mph and you should do fine. Northport Nailers, Southport Slammers and spoons like them catch a lot of fish in Lake Ontario. Also J-plugs and dodgers with flies work well too. Just keep the speed slow enough that the spoons don't start to loop instead of wobble.

in the early spring we used planer boards with spoons. towards the summer we were using down riggers with spoons. if you are on the big lakes though use downriggers with cutbait and flys or a silverbullet plug. you should invest in a fish hawk if you don't have one and a good fish sonar like lowerance.
