It could be your cats diet. A change in food might help. It could also be having a skin issue which is causing hair loss, or if it's hotter where you live then it's normal for a cat to shed it's coat. A call to the vet will probably alieveate all your worries.

If it's a long haired cat, they usually shed a lot during the summer months and then grow back the hair during the winter. If that's not the case, maybe there is a skin condition.

All cats shed - humans do also!

If large patches are coming out in tufts or leaving bare spots behind, this can be caused by any number of parasites or illness, so you need to take her to the vet to be checked for ringworm, mange, dermatitis, hyperthyroidism, allergies....

Check with a vet first. Could be any number of things including: food allergy, malnutrition (most commercial pet foods DO NOT provide adequate nutrition), allergy to anything in the environment, including another pet(!), fleas, stress, an illness.

Shave your cat. Only way to stop it fully.

You can also give your cat more frequent bathes. Also brush them daily to remove excess fur. That's about all you can do short of buying a shorter haired cat.

What exactly were you expecting?
Cats shed.
Get a fine tooth comb and comb your cat regularly.
And make sure your feeding it a proper diet, this should help.
