I took my 17 year old daughter to have her hair TRIMMED at a salon I had been too a few times before & was satisfied with. Being her hair was down past her waist, she almost never gets a "haircut". We told the lady she was having her senior pics taken the next day, and only wanted her to "TRIM" the ends...to clean it up a little, but not look like it was just cut. I went out of the salon, feeling confidant the lady understood. I came back less than 10 minutes later, my daughter is sitting there, tears running down her cheeks, and the front portion of her hair on just one side of her face was now about chin length, from the front back to right in front of her ear!! She had cut about 12 inches off! When I asked her what the hell she was doing she replied, "It will look cute, kinda feathery"! Well, I basically told the lady off, found another place and they managed to save most of the length. I feel like the first lady needs to be held responsible for this , what can I do?

You need to make a complaint to the manager and if he/she won't do anything about it go to his/her boss. That is ridiculous!!!!! I can not believe that lady did that to your daughter's hair! The lady needs to be fire and have her license revoked!! If she can't understand what a "trim" is then she needs to go back to beauty school.

You should have gotten the license plate numbers of anyone else in the salon that day so an attorney could question them and possible subpoena them for a court case.

I would ask an attorney anyway about taking the salon or the stylist to small claims court.

You could also file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in your town or state. You can do it online. Once a business has a complaint filed against them it stays on their record forever.

Two things though... You NEVER get a haircut before an event - that's just plain stupid no matter how well you know the stylist or salon, and, your daughter was 17 and couldn't open her mouth? Is she mentally challenged? If not, before you start you better make sure your daughter didn't tell the stylist to go ahead with the cut and the clammed up when she seen you were mad about it.

I am SO SO sorry this happened to your daughter. Twice in my life this has happened... on my 20th birthday and last year, 2 months before my wedding my stylist SISTER, blood sister!!! cut off 8 inches of my hair because "she didn't like the way it was 'falling.' You got some good responses and I don't have a good answer for you... just wanted to show my empathy. Expose the stylist. They get scissor happy: I HATE that! I'm sure she looks gorgeous and when she gets to school, she'll likely be the most popular girl there and receive lots of esteem boosting compliments, just because of the "change."

Most salons have the stations rented to individuals. Meet with the owner of the salon to discuss your problem. If the owner isn't willing to make a concession (most will just to keep themselves out of the problem), then write a letter to the editor of your local paper explaining your situation. Be sure to name the salon and the hairdresser, and stick to the facts.

Sorry to hear about that. Thats why I don't go to salon and I trim my own. I would ask for my money back and boycott the hell of out them! Other than that I wouldn't know. Good Luck!

I would be furious, but I'm not sure you can do much about it other than talk to the salon manager for a refund and to report this terrible hairdresser. I would also maybe postpone her picture day until she feels better about her hair.

Talk to the manager about how she delibritley ignored your instructions and did what she felt like. That'll teach her never to play around w/ anyone else's hair. As for your daughter, the idea of postponing pictures until shes comfortable sounds good to me. Good Luck!!

Complain to the manager and say you are dissatisfied and you want your money back or
you will tell all of your girlfriends and your daughter will make a point of telling everyone in
school just what happened. It's important that he knows what you wanted and not what the stylist felt she wanted to do! She needs to be repremanded. He will lose lots of business if you tell everyone what happened!

Probably for the best...no offense but if your girls hair was that long chances are it needed a huge triming.

However I do see why you would be mad. I would be too bc stylist too often take their own creative liscense and do whatever they feel. They dont do what the client asked for. They do what they "think" will look good.

At least its nice and healthy now and she can start out fresh. Maybe she will find a new style she really likes.
