You bet there is. Christian 'Dominionists' (Reconstructionalists, Theonomists) have largely usurped the local level political apparatus of the Republican Party, and are engaged in a sub rosa process to politically motivate moderate Christians under the false cover of religious issues such as morality and family values. The goal is nothing less than the takeover of all elective offices in the USA.

Their doctrine comes from the Bible, starting with the term 'dominion' at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”

They want to remake the USA as a theocracy... and they are succeeding.

Its most common form, Dominionism, represents one of the most extreme forms of Fundamentalist Christianity thought. Its followers, called Dominionists, are attempting to convert the laws of United States so that they match those of the Hebrew Scriptures. They intend to achieve this by using the freedom of religion in the US to train a generation of children via home-schooling and in private Christian religious schools. Later, their graduates will be charged with the responsibility of creating a new Bible-based political, religious and social order. One of the first tasks of this order will be to eliminate religious choice and freedom. Their eventual goal is to achieve the "Kingdom of God" in which much of the world is converted to Christianity. They feel that the power of God's word will bring about this conversion. No armed force or insurrection will be needed; in fact, they believe that there will be little opposition to their plan. People will willingly accept it. All that needs to be done is to properly explain it to them.

All religious organizations, congregations etc. other than strictly Fundamentalist Christianity would be suppressed. Nonconforming Evangelical, main line and liberal Christian religious institutions would no longer be allowed to hold services, organize, proselytize, etc. Society would revert to the laws and punishments of the Hebrew Scriptures. Any person who advocated or practiced other religious beliefs outside of their home would be tried for idolatry and executed. Blasphemy, adultery and homosexual behavior would be criminalized; those found guilty would also be executed. There are two conservative Christian pastors in Texas who have advocated the execution of all Wiccans. Ralph Reed, the executive director of the conservative public policy group the Christian Coalition has criticized Reconstructionism as "an authoritarian ideology that threatens the most basic civil liberties of a free and democratic society."

By failing to openly confront this insidious agenda, we have sown the seeds of our own destruction, while these religious wing-nuts are paving the way to Armageddon with gleeful anticipation.

NO, of course not, but that doesn't make it any less hilarious, does it!

True followers of Jesus are no threat so nobody needs to be saved from them. Whacked out people who THINK they're following Jesus (they may be pretty convinced about it) but are not - well THESE are the people that this is true about. Jesus, save us ALL from THOSE KOOKS!!!!! Please!

Idiots who believe in covert religion based plots to take over the US or the world are just as bad though. Watch out for them as well. Though it would be a bad thing if the ultra-religious folk got too powerful, and the fact that Clinton got elected to two terms gives them hope, I think Americans are smart enough to keep them out of high office. Of course others don't give Americans that much credit as I am sure your other answers will reveal. What do idiots like that think we are, stupid?

Then again, Carter got elected and he was a real nutbag - still is. But note he didn't get RE-ELECTED, the people wised up after his 4 years of failure.

Wow, where can I find that???

And yes, I think there's a lot of truth to that. Especially when people take it upon themselves to interpret the Bible and the words of Jesus in any fashion they want.

I think that they can take things too literally, while at the same time having such a broad vagueness to be able to incorporate anything and everything related to their day to day lives.

Some religious bumper stickers my boyfriend and I came up with:

"My God is an honor roll student."
"My God can kick your God's a s s."
"I found Jesus in the pocket of my washed jeans."

Very much so! Don't confust the followers with the Jesus - just because some people do. There's a huge differance between BELIEVING IN GOD and BEING GOD. Hard to figure out for some folks.

There's LOTS of truth in that statement. I find that the more religious a person is, the more you can't trust or count on them!

I will never do business with one who has the sign of the fish because I KNOW I'll get screwed by them.

There's some truth to that possibly, but don't you think that Jesus would come up and talk to people, especially those who don't believe? He certainly had no trouble hanging around with "sinners".

Yes, there is 'some' truth to that statement....Just because they call themselves 'Christian' does not make them Christ -like.

I too saw an interesting bumper sticker the other day, it said:

"Of course I'm judgemental, I was raised by Christians..." LOL

True for those who say they follow Jesus, but who act more like Satan himself by being racist, prejudiced, and turning against anyone who doesn't belive as they do.

Although one could say those folks don't really follow Jesus, they just use his name to justify what they want to do.

More truth than I'd like to admit. There are, among us christians, a bunch of flamin looney-tunes, as there are with any type of group.
