You know, there used to not be a hell. Christianity is rooted from Judaism and they have no hell. They have Sheol, where you go when you die and you eat dirt. That's why their families are so important to them because the afterlife is lived through being remembered. Then there was this dude named Zoroaster. He was a prince and he thought that it wasn't fair that people could screw people around and not see any punishment. And then we get the idea of hell. Sometime there after it's adopted by what would be Christians and we've evolved it into what we have today. Where we screwed ourselves is the phrase, "on earth as it is in Heaven". That's how Dogma gets it's self all carried away.
I think the Damn it thing goes long the lines of not taking the Lord's name in vain. As in, if you want something from God that you are willing to put him in on, you better really mean it. Usually people don't and they are just jerking God around. And we've heard that God is all about that smiting thing.
The truth is, there is always vocabulary that is condemned in every version of our societies. That way we can separate ourselves from people we want to be better than. The world is just sad, I tell you, sad.

God Bless You is a prayer for somebody's well being and well being. the different word is, properly, decidedly no longer! "Vengeance is mine," says the Lord! Christians do no longer want that any be damned. however the word is frequently no longer used as a prayer for somebody's damnation. that's often used as an vile oath. that's a violation of the third Commandment, which says, "those shalt no longer take the call of the Lord thy God in ineffective: for the Lord won't carry him guiltless that taketh his call in ineffective." Following is an excerpt from the Shorter Catechism of the Westminster Confession: Q. fifty 4. what's needed interior the third commandment? A. The third commandment requireth the holy and reverent use of God's names, titles, attributes, ordinances, notice and works. Q. 55. what's forbidden interior the third commandment? A. A. the reason annexed to the third commandment is that even nonetheless the breakers of this commandment might get away punishment from adult males, however the Lord our God won't go through them to flee his righteous judgment.

Anytime someone uses the address of "God," or "Jesus Christ" in a way that is not honoring to Him, that is what we call "blasphemy." Blasphemy is indicated in the first and third commandments. (I mention the first, since most people who use profanity often cannot speak without using it, and it becomes a defacto "god" for them.)
Further, whatever you are damning in God's name, you are essentially asking God to curse whatever it is you speak about. If you are working on a project, and hit your thumb with a hammer, and say the curse, you are asking God to ruin either your project or the thumb. Why do that?

Because you're commanding him to do something. Apparently that's a no-no.
He does what he wants, and answers to no one. Such a rebel, that God is.

You are not suppose to use those two words. BECAUSE you are taking the Lords name in vain. One of the Commandments are: THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE LORD THY GODS NAME IN VAIN, FOR THE LORD WILL NOT HOLD HIM GUILTLESS, WHO TAKETH HIS NAME IN VAIN.
So G/D is taking the Lords Name in vain. IT is bad and is profanity.

taking the Lords name in vain, passing judgment. Also, a side note...consiquences to our actions...we sin, and do not repent, punishment...just like if your kid delibertly does what you told him not to do, he will be punished...same concept.
