In answering late - it really depends on what you feed, how much you feed, and where you buy. I have 2, 80 pound dogs - the younger gets around 2lbs a day whereas the older dog gets about 1 1/2 lbs of food a day - soon to be taken down to 1 1/4 lbs for winter. the health benefits far outweigh the cost for me. other benefits are my dogs don't stink, skin/fur or breath. teeth are always clean, coat soft and shiny, no big sticky/mushy poop to deal with. I probably spend about $100 a month on food for my dogs. They actually don't eat $100 worth of food a month. I fill my freezer on a monthly basis so they will never run out of food. Although I get most of my meat between $ .50 and .99 per pound I do buy a variety of not-so-common things to feed them that may cost a little more than a $1 a pound.

One that has some kind of meat or meat meal as the first ingredient (s). Try and stay as far away from the ones with useless fillers as you can. Such as corn, wheat and things listed as "by-products". Things like Iams and Science Diet are really just expense trash. Read the label!! I currently feed Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul, cheesy packaging but a pretty decent food. All my dogs like it, which it pretty important. Innova, Cannidea, California Natural are all good foods, I have fed Innova and Cannidea before. That most important thing is to really read the label!!

I've found the best diet for dogs is "high protein or premium" dry food which has more protein and less filler than commercial brands. Not only healthier but the dog has one poop a day vs. several (because of the filler). Especially important if you have to pick up after your dog. You can get "high protein or premium" at Petco, Costco or feed store.

The best dog foods to feed any dog are the ones that don't have corn, wheat, soy, beet pulp, chemical preservatives, sugar, or by products in them. A quality food has meat as at least the first 2 ingredients preferably more.
Stay away from foods such as Science Diet, IAMS/Eukanuba, Pedigree, etc. These are loaded with cheap fillers & by products. Become an avid label reader.
Dogs are meat eaters, they aren't designed to process corn, wheat, soy etc. They don't use the nutrients from grains effectively. It takes twice as much grain laiden foods to get the proper nutrition as it does a good quality mostly meat food. More food in more waste out.

Try Royal Canin, they make breed specific foods. Each type is designed specifically for that breeds needs. I have tried almost every brand out there and after days of research I went to Royal Canin. The company has put a lot of research into their food for quality and taste. My dogs are very finicky eaters and this is the first food they love. My Lab is on Labrador 30 and his shedding has been greatly reduced, he has also toned up a great deal. They have a great website, royal canin USA, it has videos and a very informational section for the breeds.

Hey.
If you really care about your dog, I would check out this site. It uncovered some things I had never realized before, and now I'm glad my lab will live far past the age of other dogs.

As for me, it doesn't matter what you feed your dog as long as the dog likes it, Just don't give her poison, i'm sure you know what I mean. Sometimes I give my dog what I eat. You can always get nutrition elsewhere, as for me I am giving him a nutritional supplement, It's cheap anyway.
I'm using this one right here -->

Most pricey foods are going to be good. Anything with a meat listed first on the ingredients list.
