the airport, that's where the competition is. we rented ours there, you may get a better deal somewhere in kahului but you have to get around town somehow.

I often travel to Maui, and I rent from Dollar whether my employer is picking up the tab, or I'm there for fun and paying out of my own pocket. In fact, once they let me drive the same car on my own credit card one day and the state voucher the next without coming in to change it over in between. They are usually the least expensive or within a few dollars. I think a shuttle driver told me they have nearly 5000 cars on Maui.

If you ask for compact, you are most likely to get the Dodge Caliber, but they may have a Nissan Sentra somewhere. You may have to go inside their building out on the lot to get the key if you're picky like me and don't like the Caliber! Otherwise, if you have a reservation, you can probably get the key from their desk at the airport, a short walk from baggage claim. All of the rental car companies at Kahului Airport (OGG) have shuttles that take you from that area to their lots just down the street. All the shuttle drivers seem to be very friendly.

Mid-sized at Dollar is often Dodge Stratus, and Sebring convertibles are big on Maui, too. Once my sister and I parked in a lot in Lahaina with three other silver Sebring convertibes!

You can use the websites below to compare prices for rental cars at just about any American airport.

Reasonable? As reasonable as you can get...try Enterprise or National. I've gotten better prices from them. Check ahead, they may be running specials.

look on the companies website to get the best rates . . . if you book an economy for $30, and they don't have it . . . they have to give you something bigger for the same price.
