If that's what it takes to get you back on spiritual track, that's probably where God will keep you.
My advise? Get past this trial so you don't have to stay there.
My depression is chemical, brought on by artificial sweeteners. As long as I eat natural, stay Kosher, and read God's Word everyday I do ok.

SO you only seek God when you need help and otherwise you pretty much ignore Him? How would YOU feel if He treated YOU that way?
Fortunately Hhe doesn't... He loves you no matter how difficult you make it for Him to do so.
Unless you believe God is a Her... in which case make the appropriate changes above.

You need to take that "thinking of God" one step further and start a personal relationship with Him. You do this by admitting to Him that you are a sinner (you do things He says are wrong) and asking Him to cleanse you of your sin and take charge of your life (not absolute control, but letting Him make the rules). Try reading John 14:6, and Romans 10:9,10. Having a real relationship gives you a desire to be with God and do things right, although this doesn't happen overnight.

That may be why you get into a depression. Jesus said "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all things will be added to you". If you seek God first in everything, every day of your life; read His word, study it, live it, speak to Him in prayer...then God will order your life. If you just wait until you're down and depressed to seek God, you are not allowing Him to lift your life up and set your feet on a higher place. If you did that, you wouldn't find yourself in those dark valleys.
May God shine His love and grace on you today, in Jesus' name.

Change begins with you. Decide first that you are going to change. Have a plan with concrete goals of how you want to change, who you want to be, and how will you go about making a difference and how long will it take etc? If spirituality is the vehicle that helps you get there, then great, but do not let it be your crutch. Good luck.

First you have to identify what is making you depressed so you can change it. You are looking for answers to something when you go to church.

Church is a commitment. If you really want to be involved and go, you have to go faithfully. Not just when you "feel" like it. It may help you stay out of depression alltogether!

You've simply got to make the decision to do the right thing. This isn't a complicated idea. Just go to church.
