The Bible doesn't say that. When Christianity became the Roman religion, the church followed the Roman family system, monogamy. The only comments in the NT are Paul saying that certain leaders like a Bishop should have one wife. Does that mean at least one or only one? That did not restrict those who were not leaders.

The Old Testament was written to be effective in a more barbaric time. That is why the Laws of Moses passed away and are not followed anymore. The Laws of Moses still shed light on God's intention for our moral code though.

A man shall leave his father and mother and cling to his wife, not wife(s).

It was wrong in the Old Testament as well, those prophets that had multiple wives repented for their sins.

If God wanted Men to have 4 wives, there would be 4 girls born for every 1 boy.

Peace!

where does it change?????? depends what religion you are.... in some religions, you can still have multiple wives as long as you can afford them... i think one religion that permits that is Islam and Mormons

it also it changed with time...... men became conscious that he alone can not afford many wives by himself. (there are exceptions, some millionaires still have concubines, they can afford them)

either that or find your self more than one wives that would be willing to share you... which i doubt you'll find now a days.

Deacons and elders are exhorted to have only one wife.

You'll find the references in 1 Timothy 3 & Titus.

Men with more than one wife (therefore) cannot aspire to rank of any consequence in Christ's church since the rank of "deacon" is the equivalent of "errand boy" or "gofer" in today's vernacular.
