Canada requires "one-party notification" - only one person in the conversation needs to be aware that the conversation is being taped.

In other words, the person taping the conversation must be
participating in it. You will find this law in the Criminal Code of
Canada.

In Canada, as long as one of the two talking on the phone is aware of the conversation, the other does not have to be aware.
this is for credibility in court, as one can testify this is the actual conversation that transpired, unedited.

It is legal if at least one of the people involved in the conversation knows that it is being recorded. In other words you can record your own conversations with anybody (because you are one of the persons in the conversation and you are obviously informed that it is being recorded), but you can't record the conversation of other people (where you are not a participant) unless at least one of the people knows it is being recorded.
