Depends on what you mean. Fat is distributed on your body based on genetics. If you eat too much and do not burn off those calories, then you will gain fat. Stress can effect your motivation to do either of these things well. Where the fat goes, depends on your genetics. All peopld distribute fat differently. Many people think that exercising a certain body part (stomach, arms) will decrease the fat in that area. This is not true. Fat gets taken off depending on where your body burns it first (a general burn rather than a local burn). Stress does not specifially put fat anywhere! Belly fat is however related to increase Cardiovascular risk, diabetes, and many other health problems.

Storing fat in the belly has been linked to high levels of the hormone Cortisol in the bloodstream. Although stress isn’t the only reason that cortisol is secreted into the bloodstream, it has been termed “the stress hormone” because it’s also secreted in higher levels during the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response to stress, and is responsible for several stress-related changes in the body.

So there is a link bwt cortisol and stress and there is also a link bwt cortisol and belly fat.

So yes there is a correlation bwt belly fat and stress

I retired and the belly fat got worse. It is what you eat, how much and exercise. Stress can cause one to "stress eat" but the root cause is the eating not the stress.

Fat that is located under the skin , called subcutaneous fat, carries less risk than fat that is deposited around the organs, called visceral fat. An increase in visceral fat is associated with higher incidence of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, and breast cancer. Where your extra fat is deposited is determined primarily by your genes. Stress, tobacco use, and alcohol consumption predispose people to visceral fat deposition, whereas physical activity reduces it.

It has to do with the way you eat and also genetics.

The genetics part determines what part of the body is more likely to gain fat first. For some, it can be the stomach, and for others, it could be something like their legs.

There is some slight relevancy to that, but it's mostly about what you eat.
