Its not the FAA its the TSA that has instituted these rules as a measure that takes away the possibility of terrorists making a liquid bomb. KY is inert and poses no threat.
Not to worry, you will not have to go thirsty, the FA's will be glad to serve you a beverage.This and alot of other reasons are why I love piloting myself in a single engine general aviation aircraft!!

You must not have been on planet earth for the past couple of weeks.
The attempted terrorist attack a couple ago weeks ago had the would be murders carrying explosive liquids on board the aircraft hidden in drinking bottles. Because of this, they set more limits on items you can carry on the plane. If theses precautions were not taken, they would simply try again. And you would most likely be here complaining that the government did not do enough to protect us.
I for one am grateful that they are taking precautions.
If you really need to have some water on the plane, you can ask the flight attendant and I'm sure they would be happy to get you some.
