I eat fish to get the Omega-3 fatty acids. You might not "improve" your brain by eating fish, but at the very least you will maintain it. If you really want to improve your brain I suggest reading a lot - new connections form when learning. Do it enough and you can actually raise your IQ! Ginko biloba also seems to help me with my concentration, but I don't take it all the time, although I probably should!

Are you thinking of taking Omega-3 simply to boost your brain power?
There are all sorts of claims for different products ... very few have any scientific basis. Oily fish, however, does have some scientific backing. Not only does it help matters with the function of the brain, it tends to lower LDL cholesterol (the bad kind) and increases HDL cholesterol (the good kind).
What I would advise is reading, solving puzzles and problems, eat a healthy, balanced diet, drink plenty of fresh water and get good amounts of sleep, while avoiding drinks that contain caffeine (i.e. tea, coffee, pop [soda for my American cousins], etc., and try to not overdo alcohol. You wouldn't believe the damage that can do. I'd also suggest taking a multi-vitamin per day. Other than that, enjoy life. Don't look at things that are of little consequence in the great scheme of things.

Interesting one this. All I know is that Omega 3 is an essential building block in brain matter so yes will help in the maintenance of it.
I saw a program where they fed high doses to a child who had a very short attention span for anything academic. It change him completely and he started to love learning ( took three months for any change to occur. I started taking 1000mg a day and am tempted to say it did little for me except without thinking about it I read a novel (which I don't do that often) and then I started reading all the time. So I don't know, I still take it though so I guess I must believe it's doing something for me.

A worldwide study compared fish intake among different cultural populations and the incidence of major depression episodes. Although this was not a controlled study, the results indicated that lower fish consumption contributes to lower omega-3 intake and, as a result, a higher incidence of depression. This study also found a correlation between omega 3 intake and developmental changes in the nervous system, as well as changes in perception, IQ, vision, and problem-solving competence.

refine your question... are you talking about O-mega 3, or O-mega 5, or o-mega 8, or... Butter has O-megas 6-8 and fish such as salmon have the better omega 3. O-mega i think just refers to the type of fat content in the foods you eat.

I take Omega fish oil tablets daily. I have learnt to use this computer, have taught myself to do Su-du-ko and do crosswords each day so do not think I am brain-weak. I am in my seventies so give it a go, you won't lose out.

I take fish oil supplements. It seems to help with my memory.
If you buy some, get the ones with no odor or flavor. A couple of bucks more, but in my opinion, well worth it.
