If 'Satan' is the root of all evil/sin and 'God' is omnipotent (all powerful), then why doesn't 'God' defeat 'Satan' and/or rid the universe of 'Satan'.

because if satan didn't exist, religion would have to come up with an explanation as to why so much evil and destruction exists under an all powerful and loving god. Having satan as an opposer gives the religious the potential to do violence and protect themselves from unorthodox beliefs, as any apparent threat to the religion can be connected to this enemy of god.

Don't bother looking for logical reasons as to why satan exists, religion is not about logic. Instead, look at the psycological reasons why ever religion has some evil entitiy as part of their mythos.

Hi Christy,

The Bible does not teach that Satan is the root of all evil/sin, although he has a strong influence over the world. If you look at some of the values and everyday occurences in life- you can definitely see some influences that are very contrary to things that God teaches.

The causes of sin are: the flesh (everyone has sinned)- sin isn't just this or that specific act- but it's a mindset that says i'm going to live life my way and not God's way. (Maybe a micro-picture of this is when we watch talk shows and you've teens heading down a destructive path are like "forget you mom" or whatever i'm going to do what i want, etc.), Satan (he does do his work, and the world and its influence and values. Romans 1 in the Bible is a good chapter that explains this.

The Bible does not have God and Satan as equals. In fact God has resered a time for the judgment of Satan and his demons (however, that time will not come) until Jesus after the rapture (the reason believers are raptured out) is because the time after the rapture is a time of judgment of sin (although people can still come to faith during that time- but it will be more difficult).

1 or 2 Peter teaches that God desires all to want to come to repentance the passage also says he is long-suffering. Why would an all-powerful God suffer? Because he has to watch his creation suffer through choices that are harmful to themselves and others. So Jesus can come back and end all the suffering but it also means that less people will come to repentance. In other words God doesn't just watch the suffering and is uncaring- but He watches it, hurts, but endures so that more people can come to be saved. Satan and his demons have an appointed day of judgment.

i really hope that helps and i did my best not to be too preachy. If any of this does not make sense - feel free to email me at nicksterlee@yahoo.com

Kindly,

Nickster

Actually, the bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil. But since you are talking about Satan, he is the next one. Satan knows he is already defeated and will die very soon. That is why he is causing so much havoc to happen on the Earth right now. If you were lost, wouldn't you want God to postpone making an end to things till you got saved? That is basically what God is doing now, letting as many as will come into the fold of the saved. Then He will make an end to all the suffering and Satan.

OK, the bible does not say that the root of all evil is Satan - says that it is the love of money. 1 Timothy 6:10 :)

But, seriously.....

The bible shows that God is going to rid the universe of Satan, when certain issues have been settled (and no one will ever be able to raise them again - sufficient time will have been allowed for Satan, his wicked angels, and any humans to have tried to show that they do not need God.)

Revelation chapter 20 shows that. Other scriptures can be referenced that show that throughout the entire bible, this is shown to be the case.

As to the time frame of when this will happen, Jesus gave the signs that we were to look for to see when this was close to happening, and Paul gives a description of the kind of people who would be in the last days.

Just because I can beat the snot out of my little brother doesn't mean him and I can't play monopoly together.

So anyways, even though I'm an atheist I will play devil's advocate on this one (pun intended) and say that I kind of agree with Jim Darwin. God and Satan are playing a game to see who can get the most souls... right now Satan is winning (67% of the world does not believe in the Christian God) .... sometimes my little brother wins at monopoly what can I say.

devil grew to become right into a talking snake.. or some thing. and then created sin via making Adam and Eve consume an apple that God advised them to not consume. Then it takes God 1000's of years to create this plan the place he dies on a visit forgive human beings's sins.. And evil nonetheless exists. devil is obviously greater powerful and sensible than God.

God will defeat Satan in the end. If you're seriously confused about this, and this is an honest question, read the book of Revliations. It's an awesome book

Because God gave humans free will. That is the power for us to choose to follow God or Satan. I think it would be like making your own game, but making rules so that only you would win. How fun would that be?

Satan really is not evil in the old testament. He was a partner with God, out there just testing us. Read Job. Instead of preachers that talk sh*t.
