Anyone else have this problem? I've been going through this for the past year. I sleep at 1 or 2 in the morning every night, wake up at 6 for work (tired most of the day), then get home and take a nap. Is this normal? I'm only 28. I shouldn't feel this sluggish all the time, yet I can't shake my sleeping habits.

I have the same problem..I can sleep 3 hours a night and work a full day and be dead tired and I still cannot fall asleep. Best thing to do is to avoid caffeine after 5 or 6 in the evening and get yourself on a sleeping patten. Go to bed at the same time everyday and get up at the same time regardless if you go to work that day or not. My doctor suggesetd this to me and it is helping a little. He told me if I continue not to sleep he would put me on medication as a last resort.

You could try a mild sleeping pill to get yourself on a more regular schedule. It could also be something you are eating or drinking on a regular basis without even knowing it. Coffee even, large amounts. If you are drinking caffeine in the afternoon, or eating sugars to give yourself a pep, it can cause a large part of the problem.
Try eating protein in the morning, eggs, something along those lines that will give your energy a boost in the mornings. Go ahead and have your coffee..in the mornings. Try drinking more water throughout the day, water will flush impurities out of your system. Keep your lunches light foods, but don't allow yourself to stay hungry. That way it won't bother you to have a light dinner, which is recommended anyway. You expend more energy during the day than you do at night, so you need to give your body the energy to get through the day, but then when you don't give it as much in the evenings, your body will be better able to rest itself. They have changed the recommended sleeping hours for adults and children from 6 to 8 or 9 hours a night. Make yourself get to bed at an earlier hour, find a day off to get those all important things done. If you can't get your mind to relax, try a sleep aid, something milder like Tylenol. If the problem persists, talk with your doctor who can prescribe you something else a little stronger for a limited time to help your body get into a regular sleep pattern.
But whatever you do medication wise, keep it on a limited time basis, so you don't become dependent on it.
Good luck!

Oh yea, I've experienced this. Here's my schedule. I wake up at 0400, travel to work which goes from 530-2 Pm, get home around 2:30 and my immediate feeling is to take a nap so I usually do or did and I would be up just like you. It wasn't until I reduced the nap time, eliminated it all together and went to bed at a normal hour that would provide me with 8 hours of sleep. Just change your habits and routine a bit and replace some activities with mild exercise a couple times a week. This should work for you too.

I don't think it is normal for you not to be sleeping. The first thing you should do is consult your doctor. It could be a medical problem that no amount of tricks can cure. However, if that is not possible, here are some things you can try: You have to find ways to destress long before 1 or 2 in the morning. Reading always makes me sleepy (lol). I also have a sound machine that is literally on 24 hours. The sound of the ocean or similar helps, Get a good one, the sound quality makes a difference. If tea, sex, relaxing music, yoga or early exercise don't help, I'd see a doctor.

I had the same problem. So my doctor had me do a sleep study. The results were that during the night when I was sleeping I stopped breathing 172 times. When a person stops breathing while sleeping it wakes up the brain and in the morning you fell like you haven't slept a wink. You might have sleep apnea.

Make sure you don't drink any caffiene after 4:00pm. And try to eat more proteins in your diet eat little healthy snacks if you can during the day. Try to fight the urge to take a nap and go for a walk instead or try to excercise then try to sleep after not taking a nap. After a few days this hepled me with a similar situation

I have the same predicament. I find that stretching out before bed helps a lot. You can also try taking a bath, meditating, or even reading before bed.
