I have a dilema. My aunt and uncle currently live in California and are constantly asking our family for favors and $$$$$. Which we help as much as we can,... my other uncle rented a house to them,... and now they are in a family fued becuase, my aunt and uncle, who are always in need, are not paying him rent. To make a long story short, they are now planning on leaving CA. and going to Pennsilvania. The problem is: They are NOT sure if they will even get the house they are trying to but. The LOAN is not 4 sure. Besides, school started 3 weeks ago and the children are still not enrolled in CA. or Pennsilvania. I was talking on the phone with my uncle that wants to leave CA and I recorded the conversation where he clearly states that he does not care if he is homeless, he would rather be homeless than live in CA. I AM WORRIED FOR THE CHILDREN! It seems like they will pay the price.

I would talk to your mom or dad about this one. I know we're all adults and think we can handle situations but I think it's best to leave this one up to the people who know best (in my opinion). If you don't want to go that route, I'd report them to Child Protection Services when you know FOR SURE that they are moving. You could also be of help and suggest the kids live with you for a while until they are settled in. I know family is so tricky...you don't want to betray by turning them in them but if you don't you are betraying them by not looking out for what is best. Good Luck!

On the issue of school- all schools in the united states are what is known as "mandated court reporters" this means that if the children miss so many days if school they have to report it t child protective services. It is called " educational neglect "

since they havent asked for rfecrds at another school chances are the school will be reporting it if they haven't already.
Unfortunately , being homeless is not abuse or neglect. The children must have issues with not enough food, poor or unsafe home life or be sexual abuse or beaten before cps can intervein.
You are right to care about them. Maybe offering to take the kids for a few months would be better then an additional family feud

First off there are shelters.. so why they would have concerns of being homeless is beyond me.. I would call social services if I was you.. If not for anything else they could probably help your family out.. Are they on social assistance.. Or they could get low income housing where the rent is 200 bucks a month.. there are hundreds of options but obviously your uncle is being too selfish to look through them!

I think you or someone else should take the children, too. Children growing up in the System (Child Protective Services or Foster families) are almost never happy. They go from family to family until their eighteen and worrying constantly that their siblings will be split up or that they can't trust the people who their with at the foster family. So many things happen -- sexual abuse, physical abuse, and/or seperation.

You can't report them for not being in school just yet. Here in the Tri-State area (and lots of surrounding areas) on the East Coast, school has not started yet. It doesn't begin until Sept 5th. You can't really call CPS until something HAPPENS. They won't investigate based on something that "might" happen. I don't blame you for being worried about the children. It's quite possible that your Uncle didn't mean his words "literally" about being homeless. At least I hope he didn't. I hope things turn around for that family. GOOD LUCK!

Did your uncle know you were recording the conversation? In some states it is a felony to do that without telling the other person, so if you did call CPS they wouldn't be able to use it against him. If you are concerned for the children you can call CPS, they should be in school.

This situation does not in any way warrant the intervention of the government in that family's life. If in a few months time, they are still nowhere and the kids still aren't in school, maybe. But, homeschooling is a great life with good parents.

That's tough. Maybe you or another family member could take the children. It sounds like they are going to be in need of a home in a few weeks.

By all means this needs to be reported. Those children need to be in school. Contact the proper authorities right away. Children need an education as well as a stable home to live in.
