Well, actually no one ever saves any energy, think about this:

Say, Sally decided she was going to bike to work every day. She is no longer going to drive her car to work. She is energy conscience right? She is helping out, doing her part, right? Well, she now discovers that she has a large sum of disposable income -since she is no longer paying for gas. So she buys more things. These things must use energy to be produced and delivered (many from as far away as china) to her in one way or another. She also lives longer because her bicycling has made her healthier. So she consumes more energy because she lives longer to consume it.

I'm afraid we can't beat thermodynamics here. Energy exits the universe whether we like it or not. We can't stop it, and we end up burning the same amount of Fossil Fuels regardless of how well we can conserve energy.

Sorry.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed. You may not use it, but other people still are going to or you'll use it in other aspects that you don't even realize.
