Public schools are owned by the state and fall under the separation of church and state thing. I think it violates your first amendment right to free speech . Why can't there be a few minutes for those who would like to say a prayer to do so while those who don't just respectfully remain silent. If I were you I would pray anytime I felt the urge. Definately you are likely to get some strange looks but chances are there are other Christians in your school who would begin to do the same thing if one person showed the way. No one should have to act like a closet Christian just so they don't offend anyone else. As long as you are respectful about it and do not start preaching to everyone prayer in and of itself would be a wonderful trend to start.

So, should we all say a prayer to Yahweh? What about the muslim children? So should we pray to Yahweh and Allah? But what about the hare krishna children? So should we pray to Krisna? But what ...
I could go on and on with this. Eventually you run out of time enough in the day for any education, each religion gets its 3 minutes of prayer, and spends the rest of the day saying prayers to gods they think are fake.
Oh, what about the atheistic children? They now spend their whole day not getting to do what they're there for -- learn.
The only fair solution is the absolute expulsion of religion from public schools.

Because if you are in a public school, there is a good chance that not everyone who goes to your school is a Christian. Being made to say a Christian prayer would be offensive to these people. How would you feel if you were forced to pray to a Hindu god every day? If you want to pray, do so on your own, but prayer is a personal thing and should not be forced on others.

There's nothing stopping individual students from praying. If you and your buddies want to say a group prayer in the mornings without disrupting class, then go for it. But you have no right to broadcast your religion over a loudspeaker to a captive audience.

Who's to stop you from saying a prayer inside your head?
Jesus told us to pray in secret. Now your chance to learn that. You can be praying all the time.
Perhaps you should go to a catholic/christian school.

If it's a public school, that would be unconstitutional. If you want to have schools have special time for prayer, Then why not pray to every other god that ever other kid might worship? That's only fair.

Since schools are government controlled, it would be against our constitution to favor one religion over others in school. Our nation is based on that constitution that guarantees separation of church and state. I don't think I would like it at all if the government told me which church I had to go to or what God I could worship.

Communial prayer might be prohibited but NO ONE can stop you from saying a silent prayer anywhere or at anytime you choose. Prayer is simply a conversation with God. It does not have to be audible because God knows your every thought.

If it is a private school and the management wants to do that, nobody will object. If it is tax-supported, that would constitute government support of a religion, and that is contrary to the explicit language of the Constitution.

In the US there is separation of church and state. Meaning in public schools there cannot be any religious component to the education. If people desire religious education of any kind they can go to church, temple etc.
That's why people don't want creationism taught in science classes.
