I fear the number 13 and really do not want to stay in the room!
I called the university but they were unhelpful, saying that all rooms have now been allocated so i cant swap. However, i know that not all rooms have been given (they told me this but said that it is too late for me to change).
What should I do???
Email them again askin to change rooms? Wait til a certain date when ppl can switch rooms (which is after i will hv settled in and met new friends in my flat)? Put up with it?

Extra info: I used to suffer from Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and had some compulsions with numbers. Should I contact my doctor and ask her to tell the uni this and how placing me in a room '13' may trigger a return of the disorder (quite likely)?

Although I never feared the number 13, can't say that I liked it. However, when I got married, the only date available in the month I wanted was 13. I got married on that day and went on to have my first child on the 13th and now live in a house that should be number 13 but because of superstition the builders made the house numbers 11 then 15, missing 13 out. So take the room, it could end up being your lucky number!

The number is only a bad thing if you look at it in a bad light. Facing your fear in this way may be the best way to get past it.

When I was little, I was terrified of the hoover. It was big, it was very noisy and the end looked like some kind of evil face. Eventually, my mum made me hoover the floor for a bit while she watched. She said I had to learn as soon as possible so that when I grew up , I would be really good at cleaning my own house. I soon realised, that my fear was nothing more than a strange paranoia. Your fear of the number 13 is no different. Try it taking it on. Good luck. x

but 13 is a lucky number for most people, its only Friday 13th that has a negative connotation. Covens woudlnt meet in 13s if it wasnt a good number, there are 13 lunar months a year, and there were 13 in Jesus's 'gang'. So whats the problem, its a great number

You may want to explain to the school that you have had OCD and are afraid of a relpase. Perhaps get a doctor's note.

My husand and I got married on Friday the 13th, so we see it as a lucky day - maybe you can turn it into a positive (like this will be your best year at school and its because you were in room 13)

Good luck.

Try the doctor route, there is a recongnised phobia which is fear of the number 13 triskaidekaphobia, but remember that the number itself cannot do any harm. It's really just a number! The only power it has over you is the power you give it.

i guess you could go through all that or you could decide that superstition is just that superstitious thinking. the things we fear the most we usually bring upon us. the number 1 in numerology is the number of independence and standing alone. the number one represents strenght, standing alone. the number 3 in numerology stands for communication' this number shows your ability to communicate will be good.together they add up to 4 and the number 4 represents hard work, so i think if you work hard while there and learn and study.communicate yourself all will pay of f well for you because your room number shows hard work and that means succes.

hey!
who told you number 13 was good or bad?
look at their lives, should they be leading or teaching anyone anything?

I realize the pain that you fear...of having a relapse.
maybe this is your chance to turn to The Lord Jesus for true and once and for all healing from ocd and from anything that is not pleasing to Him in your life. to have new life in Him.

don't think that you have it in you to overcome your ocd, and don't think that just because you change your room that you'll automatically be ok. flimsy outside circumstances can't protect us against our problems.
what would happen to you if your question was the 13th question this hour?
there will always be occasions to stumble and relapse, but there is always The Living and Loving Lord Jesus who died and rose again- to save His people from their sins, and pain and trouble.
He wants us to be free (I know, I was ocd, and alcoholic because of it, but have no such trouble now).
you can't do it.
but The Lord can...put your faith and trust in Him, live as He has created you to live,,,He will give you the strenth.
turn to Him, and surrender your sins, and your burden, and your fear, and pain.

matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

It is just a number with no power to do anything unless you give it that power. If it means that much to you, you can always take the one off and put it behind the 3 and voila!! You have it fixed. Just think, a number has no power unless you give it power.

Wow, I have heard about triskaidekaphobia, but have never met anyone who actually had it.

Sooner or later we all have to come face to face with our fears. I think it is best that we do it sooner rather than later, because then we can spend the remainder of our years free from fear.

Maybe you should have posted this under mental health.

13 has always been a very lucky number for me.

and as 13 was the number of people at the last supper and as that was the moment when events were triggered to save mankind.......if you believe all that...........then surely it is lucky.
