The bible states that the earth is God's footstool. Isaiah 66:1
The scripture that you are referring to is probably Hebrews 13:13, which is quoting from Psalm 110:1. Acts 2:34 also quotes from the one in Psalms. In either case, it is speaking about Jesus having his enemies placed as his footstool, not individual Christians.
1 Corinthians gives further insight on this subject, particulary verses 20-28.

It is a trick only few accomplished people were able to discover through personal experience.
2006 examples constitute a reversed principle: Bible calls its followeres to actually bless your enimies - it goes on to say that by doing so you are gathering hot coals on their heads. If you are follower of Bible (thus a follower of Christ) you can see your enemie's eventual defeat in the book of Revelation where they will not just become footstools, but be wiped off with any memory of them.
But the examples you're looking for can be found inside the bible the book of Psalms and Judges describing the Old testament principles which were replaced by New Testament after Christ, who brought the reversed principle.

Read Matthew 5, the earth is God's footstool.
The footstool is an object placed before and connected to the throne of the king for him to rest his feet on.
Therefore the earth is lower than heaven, but very near to it. The lord can be seated and heaven and still be touching earth.
The ark of the covenant, more specifically, is God's footstool, and it is on earth.
So our enemies will be close to us, connected to us, but a little lower (under our influence), and a place where we can rest, even though it isn't our throne (place of our authority).

Well, if you think about it, Jesus already conquered our enemies 2,000 years ago on the cross. In present day, it is our job to deal with our enemies and with His help make them our footstool, or make them bow to us rather than us bow to them.
Ex. of present day enemies: anger, hatred, bitterness, lying, stealing, fornication, abuse, etc.
So by dealing successfully with our enemies, and to do this it means when a situation comes up that your particular enemy surfaces you deal with it head on and not give in to it, it makes us more than conquerors through Christ and in turn those enemies that plagued you no longer will because you've conquered them through Christ.
One of my biggest ones was anger. I didn't realize I had it until I got married. With my husband's help, we dealt with it head on and anytime I got angry he would force me to deal with it and not just sluff it off like it's not a big deal. It is a big deal. We are to be like Christ as much as we can, and He is not an angry God. So after successfully facing situations and not wanting to stay angry, the Lord helped me overcome my anger to where I'm no longer an angry person. Do things get me angry still? Sure. But I'm no longer driven or ruled by anger. This in turn makes the enemy His footstool through us on earth.
I hope that this makes sense to you some! If you want to talk more you can email me at cheesecake_lady03@yahoo.com

What you mention is originally called out in Psalm 110, which is in response to what David seeks in Psalm 109. Ironically what David seeked he got. He was given deliverence. His persecutors were indeed humiliated and subdued and made his footstool. When you use the New Testaments re-use of this verse, there is a subtle misappropriation.
Clearly the verse is true for David and what he represented, which is staunch, dedicated, uncompromising obedience to the MOST HIGH. Remember that King David was a man loyal and dedicated to the MOST HIGH. He did not call himself except in very humble terms. Also, he was totally loyal to Saul, even though Saul was not fair to David and was jealous of his success in spite of abiding loyalty from David.
Now some in Israel may wish to ascribe that verse to themselves as you are doing for the Christians. When in fact what I glean from the verses are people who are dedicated to OBEY the HOLY ONE!!
It is an irony that Israel that we see today is certainly not the Israel that David loved and defended. This Israel allows agnostics and atheists and abusers of the Laws of the Torah an equal status across the board. This Israel allows bestiality and gay parades on the Holy Land where Moses was not allowed to enter for hitting the rock twice at Horeb instead of once. Labels do not fool God. They do not even fool wise men!!
The answer to your question is in the last lines of Psalm 109. Check out who are the poor in the World? Check out who are the downtrodden in the World and are being abused? Check out who have power and who are weak fighting with old weapons and winning. Check out who are those who are dedicated to uphold the laws of Monotheism at the risk of life and limb.
Certainly not America and Americans who are allowing abortions of their own children by the millions. Certainly not Israel, which is breaking every law of the Torah in broad day light.
Ask yourself who are those who are obedient to God. Who are unwilling to compromise with the filth of the World? Who are the downtrodden and abused, but would not bow to the powerful?
You will see the answer if the Lord inspires you!!

Here is an example. My brother-in-law once said some very bad things to me and my husband. He actually wished my husband would die in a car crash. Today he is homeless. He has been without a job and is living in one of our houses rent free. I hope this helps.

This is the same concept that appeals to people who think God will send anyone to Hell that personally disagrees with them. If that sounds like an anti-Christian comment, consider:
Up until 200 years ago, Christians did not ASSUME they were automatically going to Heaven. In fact, even MOTHER TERESA said before her death that she "didn't know" if she would make it to heaven.
In the AMERICAN VERSION of Christianity, humbleness has been replaced with arrogance.
