Most likely yes - police have the right in AZ (and I think in other states as well) to drive however they need to to perform their duties, as long as they take due regard for the safety of others). If they hit the lights and sirens, people need to pull over, and that may not be what the officer wants.

A few years ago my mother, my two daughters, and myself were crossing the street... we were in a cross walk... and a cop car was coming, he did not have his lights or sirens on and he did NOT stop for the stop sign and it was a 4-way stop intersection. We were getting ready to cross the street and he almost hit us. I called to speak to the chief of police. This one cop doesn't even do his job fully. What I mean by this is that one time I called the police to do a welfare check on a neighbor who was VERY sick just because he heard her mumbling he figured she was fine.... he never phyisically seen her.... come to find out if I didn't call her mother she would have died about an hour later. Another time this police officer didn't do his job fully was he was called to check out a possible child abuse case where a little girl had bruises on her pelvic bone , all this cop did was write down information....... he never even checked to see if there were bruises or anything.... and come to find out this little girl WAS abused. So I guess police can get away with things that others can't. I'm not going to knock ALL police, but there are a few out there that get away with things.

Technically police officers are supposed to obey the same basic traffic laws as the rest of us (even if their sirens are on). They are allowed to drive in the wrong lane cautiously, and run a red light after stopping briefly if their lights are on. However, there's no one to stop them.

In some cases the officer is "running silent" which is required in cases where the sound of sirens or the use of lights could cause a perpetrator to do something stupid and possible hurt someone. Believe it or not, cops have more people checking on them than you would believe. The watchers are always watched, and usually held to a higher level of accountability. They can't claim they didn't know.

Absolutely not. But they do anyway--I see it all the time. There really is no one stopping them from getting away with it...even if we were to report it all they would have to say is "I was going to this place, blah blah..." make up an excuse and it would be over with. They most definitely use their job and that car as an advantage to themselves...and some of them that we see breaking the traffic laws are not even on duty--but on their way home for shift change! I wish it would stop, but I guarantee it won't...(and we wonder why so many cops are crooked?)

YES! they often are sent on a call without lights and siren. That means they must get there as quickly as possible without interrupting regular traffic. I think it's called a "code 2" call.

If they are just cruising around on normal patrol, they are expected to be a good example. Of course we all know that some of them have a attitude problem and disregard that.

Yes, Police are allowed to violate vehicle & traffic law in the course of their official duties ...use of emergency lights and/or sirens are up to their discretion/judgement normally except certain responses which prohibit their use.

If siren is off and lights off they have to obey same laws as everyone. I have seen a FHP trooper actually pull over a city cop and ticket him for speeding in his police car

police in short devise from the word MILITA [military]
therefore beleive they are above the laws, but, to answer the question NO they are not allowed to break any laws they are there to INFORCE the laws of the land.
some however did not attend school on that day, or the days of drugs and the dealers...do we arrest them or confiscate the drugs and money and make them pay every week for allowing them to sell on there beat.....yeah...good luck with that.

Come on do you think that they will be reprimanded for speeding, or any other minor traffic violation? It doesnt apply to them as long as they do so in a safe manner, with out putting the public at risk.
