Kennel Cough, otherwise known as bordetella, can last a long time in some dogs, the younger they are the worse it can be because their immunities are not built up. You should listen you your vet and continue the antibiotics but also a good idea is to bring your pup into the bathroom when you take a shower. The steam is really good for breaking up the congested mucus in his lungs. Make sure he is getting a healthy diet and that nothing gets worse.

If this has been going on for a month or more, I would ask my vet to reccomend an internal specialist or cardiologist vet, or look for one in your local yellow pages. These symptoms sound like it could possibly be congestive heart failure taken all together. I would definately want a second opinion of a specialist - if this has been going a long time with antibiotics not helping. If it has only been a couple weeks, wait it out. Good luck

My dog did something like that, and the vet said something about a damaged wind pipe. Like if you take him for walks on the leash, and pull him to a stop if he were running. The impact caused a flattening effect, which sometimes when active it collapses. My dog never got any worse, we just watched to make sure he was breathing okay when we heard the cough type sound. Maybe you could mention it to your vet and see what he says.

I would get a second opinion from another vet, ask some dog owners in your area who is good. It sounds like kennel cough but you can't be sure, the antibiotics might take awhile to work, but if you are concerned, take him in.....definitely. Better to have some peace of mind. good luck.

Kennel cough takes a while to clear up. Make sure he gets all his meds. As long as he eats and drinks he should be okay, but if he gets any worse I'd def. call your vet back.

We went through something similar with our ferret when he was a baby. You might try a different vet or suggest to yours that it might be a cold, upper respiratory infection, or allergies. Our ferret had an upper respiratory infection. He had a special medicine that I had never heard of and a small amount of children's liquid Benadryl, but if I were you I would want to confirm the problem before giving your pup anything.

we have one and he had the same problems... did your pup ever wear a collar? if so, have his throat checked. his larynx might me damaged which would cause the cough. i would stop the meds and see if it gets better. also, if dirt, dust or hair gets into their nose, it will cause those symptoms. i hope you find the answer, but if he is otherwise healthy, why give the antibiotics? GOOD LUCK
