He may need to be checked for worms, or other malady..However, if his health checks out, and he just has poor appetite, then feeding him a premium dog kibble will help..he will get the most nutrients from the smaller amount..with no fillers..
great kibbles are Canidae (pretty fattening though for an inactive dog) Innova, Wellness, Wysong, Solid Gold...You can find these at most pet supply shops... there is nothing but bagged garbage at your grocer's...

Glad to see you are concerned about your dogs eating habits, but you likely have little to worry about. We have a yellow lab that's two years old and have dealt w/ the same thing. The problem is usually that our eating habits skew our perspective of a dogs habits. Our vet explained that dogs would usually eat once a day, which seems sparce to us. This is not to say that you shouldn't be aware of other potential problems. If your dog is losing weight, shedding excessively, or developing discoloration in his gums or eyes, you should see your vet. If not, you probably have nothing to worry about. Dogs become picky if given table scraps or excessive treats, and will eat less if physical activity is limited. Try to be sure he is getting 3-4 cups a day (depending on weight - check the food bag). You can do this by adding chicken broth, etc, to dry dog food if he doesn't seem to like the food but be careful - dogs, like humans, can become very particular. Also, be sure your dog gets a minimum of 30 min of strenuous activity a day. Hope that helps.

Maybe you're feeding him too much. How's his weight? If he's in good weight, not too skinny, he's eating enough. It's also not good for dogs to be changing their food. If you find one he likes, and he's doing well on it, don't change it because that causes the runs. If you do need to change a food for any reason, you need to do it gradually by mixing ever increasing amounts in with the old one.

is it possible you may be feeding him too much? Or are there times when your pooch hasn't had fresh food? Sometimes if they think they aren't gong to be fed they stock pile food for later....
If it isn't any of the above, or the weather etc. Change the food up.... if he is having teeth problems try a soft/dry food mixture.
If nothing works it might be time for a vet visit.... you don't want a sick pooch =)
Best of luck

Even people eat less in the summer. He is just now maturing and eating habits may be changing. I wouldn't change his food he will eat when he is hungry.

The vet, immediately. Labs love to eat!! Something has got to be wrong with him. If you have taken him to a vet and the vet says everything is okay, take him to a different vet and if something is wrong get your money back from the other vet. He is to young not to be eating. There could be something wrong with his airway or something wrong with his mouth or jaw. Look inside his mouth for bleeding gums, ect. Squeeze gently around his neck and look for swelling, also listen to his chest for any wheezing. BUT NO MATTER WHAT, he needs a vet.
Good Luck and Take Care

I recently went throught the same thing with our golden retriever. He wouldn't eat no matter what. He might have taken a few bites here and there, but that was it. We took him to the vet and it turns out he worms, several different kinds. We had wormed him ourselves before that, but it wasn't strong enough. So after he got wormed with a strong enough dose he was fine.

try the food called chicken soup for dogs. i breed golden retrievers and i have all mine on this food, they love it. if they don't eat it then i put a little bit of chicken broth in the food for them to eat it. then you can try a little of white rice, boiled chicken, peas, carrots, celery, potatos(boiled), boiled eggs. all of this is very healthy for them to eat. try that and see what happens. good luck.
