Depends very much on the particular model. A top end Mercedes will be more reliable than a 3-series BMW. A 6-series BMW will be more reliable than the entry level Mercedes. And of course, each make has had good years/models, and bad ones. Overall, there's little difference between the brands, compared to those kinds of differences.

I worked as a tecnician at a mercedes dealership and they were not the most reliable cars around. I know a lot of technology goes into BMW, but I would say they are about the same for reliability. Luxury cars tend to be a little more troublesome. Especially European ones!

friend ownes a european shop,every time i go to visit I see a lot more benz's in the shop than BMW's is that answer your ?

I think that'd depend on your mechanic. Although if I had to choose I'd say Mercedes.
