If the hard drive you're replacing is going bad you can copy or clone everything to another hard drive. There are all kinds of connections possible, but a portable hard drive with a USB connection is probably the easiest.

If it's not going bad; if you're just upgrading to a larger hard drive, you can keep that drive with all its contents as a slave drive.

Of course there are all kinds of other storage media. You could transfer the music files to DVDs or flash drives temporarily or permanently. There's no need to turn the music files back into CD playable files if you're going to keep them stored and play them only on the computer.

It might be a good idea to discuss what you're doing with the technical staff of whatever computer store you're buying your new hard drive at. They can probably recommend a "best strategy" for your particular situation.

other than cd's or dvd's, you can also connect an external HD, or even another internal one and copy all your music files over to it. Also a large USB flash drive might work, I don't know how much room you need, but its an option.

Place all the music into 1 file and use .zip software such as WinZip to compress it and either burn it onto 1 CD or onto a flash drive.
