PSYOPS is short for Psychological Operations. It's a very fine art. It's meant to dicourage the adversary from resisting you. Best example of this was the Gulf War when we dropped tons of leaflets on the iraqi army showing what would happen if they tried to fight us.
There are a lot of misconceptions about it, even by those that are involved in it.

Psychological Warfare Dept. To make the enemy AFRAID...to make them DOUBT...to give them pause for thought, question their leadership and their mission. A good little speech was given by an actress in The General's Daughter...she worked for Psyops in the movie and was giving a little talk on it...at the end of the movie

Psychological Operations
That's a military term. It includes things like distributing leaflets, broadcasts, etc. in another country, using the native language. It's an effort to sway opinion so that it's favorable toward our operations.

Psychological operations involve a very large and complex sphere of activities, designed to weaken an adversary's will to fight. Examples may be sleep deprivation, constant shelling, leaflets stating that certain villages have been bombed(causing soldiers to desert who come from that area), creating confusion about commanders, instilling fear in the average soldier(eg. placing "hot" rounds in mortar or artillary caches, which explode when fired), anything which will distract the enemy from his mission. Very effective. rat

they are the ones that make up the leaflets that are dropped into enemy territory I believ.e That's not all they do - but it's one of the things.

reduce the morale of the enemy so they don't fight as well and they die instead of your guys
