bananas are so good for helping coeliacs (UK spelling) that in the UK they were reserved for coeliacs in the 2nd World War!
we suffer from coeliac disease in our family and diorrhea can only be controlled with a permanent gluten free diet. When occasional accidental gluten is eaten, a lot of extra fluids - water, lemonade, black tea all help, coffee is a well known irritant to the stomach lining for anyone, regardless of health issues
I would guess that bananas slow the progress of all food through your gut, enabling effective digestion

My father is Celiac and it runs in our family. Bananas, baked potatoes and rice are good natural remedies for stopping those effects... but remember that the effects you are having are because you are not eating correctly in the first place. If you eat according to the rules, you will not have bowel problems... and this is particularly important because it is a sign that you are not absorbing any nutrients - even worse in Celiac's.
Also, beware because some of the answers you've received include good remedies for people who are NOT Celiac - but you cannot eat bread, barley's or any sort of grains that contain GLUTEN! That is the main problem. And some Celiac's are affected by a wider range of foods than others.
You need to keep a food diary for a few weeks of every type of food that enters you body and monitor your reactions to really know what you can / cannot eat - Diahrrea is the number one sign that you cannot eat it.
You need to tailor your diet immediately... they are doing studies in other countries that might link Celiac's who don't follow their proper diets with causing degenerative diseases like Parkinson's. So, be very careful and serious. The Internet has many wonderful sources for food products and information... also, it is important to hook up with a local Celiac support group - because you can meet people that have good information and food ideas.

Yogurt is another good aid to control for diarrhea.
It also puts back the friendly bacteria in your colon that helps you digest food.
This is an old cure for babies that have diarrhea.
You may also want to experiment with baby foods like rice or barley cereal.
They are high in nutrients and gentle on the system.
Also, raspberries and blackberries are good in fiber so if you like any of those health fruit shakes you can usually find in the malls and in fitness stores you might want to look into getting a fruit juicer, some powered multi-vitamins and ice cream and experiment with some shakes to start your day out with to give you the vitamins and energy you need to get through the day.
Hope this helps.
I'll be praying for you.
Hugs,

I have also heard that bannanas are helpful for diahrrea. I got this information from Penn State oncology website:
After 24 hours of clear liquids, add low-fiber foods, for example, bananas, rice, applesauce, mashed potatoes, dry toast, crackers, eggs, fish, and poultry. Low-fiber foods do not attract or pull water out of the body into the bowel. They are easier to digest than high-fiber vegetables.
Also jello and tapioca are very helful in diahrrea.

Bananas are part of what's called the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast). These are very bland and easy to digest. They do not enhance your meds, they just are not hard on your digestive system, which is required when you have a flare-up.

Bananas do work, because they have large amounts of soluble fiber that help to slow things down by absorbing water and slowing down the process of contractions that cause food to pass through the bowel too quickly.

The remedy I was always told for diarrhea was the B.R.A.T. diet. Which stands for B - banana, R - rice, A - apple, T - toast. Any of those foods should work for you.

I think so because my baby girl was eating bananas along with applesauce and she got constipated. I do think bananas could help.
