Ok.

Sin is defined as breaking God's laws.

Cain and Abel both offered sacrafices to the lord. Cain offered up some grain and Abel killed a sheep and offered it to him. God accepted Abels offering and rejected Cains.

So Cain kills Abel.

Now, my question is, since the 10 commandments, (of which 'thou shalt not kill' is one of) didn't come around until the earth was much much more populated, then why was it a sin for Cain to kill Abel?

How would Cain even know that it was something he wasn't supposed to do?

Also, when God 'discovers' (even though he is supposedly omnipotent) Cain, he asks him where his brother his (even, though technically he should have been in heaven with God) and says "What have you done? (Again, God the all knowing is shocked) The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground"... (WTF)??

God talks to blood now? Why would he need to talk to the blood of a dead body and not the spirit that should have been in heaven with him?

There are those of you who say that God wanted Cain to tell him the truth about Abel. What good would that have done? Is it ok to kill someone if you just tell the truth about it?

Also, notice that Cain is punished for killing his brother... but not for lying to God's face.

Was murder a sin at that point and not lying or did God just let Cain 'cop a plea' on the murder 1?

Opinionated, where does it say in the bible BEFORE Abel is killed that only a 'blood' sacrafice was acceptable?

Let's run with that though... if only a blood sarafice is acceptable, does that mean that God is really saying 'thou shalt not kill.... unless it's in my name then slaughter away'

Well, Paul addressed the first issue in your question in his writings to the Roman christians at the time. In it, he describes how the laws were created to show us how sinful we are. At that point, Cain didn't know he was braking a law, but with the rage and hatred in his decision, he knew he was doing something wrong. You can find evidence of that outside of the bible because no matter where you go in the world, there are laws against murder, yet no everywhere in the world is influenced by the bible, some have not even heard of it.
Secondly, God was asking Cain where his brother is for a reason. It's the same reason a cop asks you if you know why he pulled you over. The cop knows you're busted, but he wants to get an idea of whether you will face the facts or lie your way around it.
As for the voice of the blood, it is a figure of speech. He is just saying, that the death is so obvious to him it is like Able's blood was screaming at God.
But to clearify, sin is not breaking God's laws. Sin is deeper. It is a sin to think about murdering someone, just as much as it is to murder that person. Sin is not an act, but the motive of your heart.

I will try to answer this even though its very disrespectful. The boys were taught the proper way of doing things, and Cain chose not to offer a blood sacrifice, which was required. Cain killed Able in a jealous rage and tried to hid him in the ground. God knew what had happened, but He wanted Cain to confess, which he didn't do.There was a consequence for the act of murder. When God deals with a person, He lets them know what is right and wrong and gives them a chance to repent, but if they don't , there will be judgment. God if fair and the rules are for everyone, he has given His word, the Bible to live by now. If you choose not to obey His rules you will pay the price. Its always good to read the instruction manual.

hi all, my insight on this is: 1. Genesis 4:3-16 tells the whole story. Your questions omits that God spoke with Cain when he saw he was upset over God's favor towards Abel's offering and how if Cain did what he was supposed to do (give God his best), he too would have favor. But if he didn't, then SIN was @ his door waiting to tempt him but he must master it (a clue into what was wrong and what was right). 2. Cain's envy / jealousy towards Able drove him to kill him (he failed to master / overcome the temptation of this sin) so when God asked where was his brother (aren't parent's funny that way? asking you a question they ALREADY know the answer to. Trying to give you a chance to "come clean" before they drop the "I already know" routine....lol) and Cain tried to play ignorant, God basically told him (not being shocked ~more of a "didn't I TELL you....." approach. Sigh..you have to let them learn the hard way...children) he already knew what he did. 3. God isn't "talking to blood" in the literal sense (then again..He is Him).., but I believe it's where we get the phrase of "having someone's blood on your hands" to where the soul (or spirit you speak of) cried out and the blood (and body) of Abel was still on the ground. Let me know if this helped / just seemed like a waste to read.

For your additional notes/ questions: I would consider God disallowing Cain to harvest EVER quite a punishment, but you miss the best part: read verse 15...that there....is called MERCY. Where God does something for you that you aren't worthy of because of his love for you.

1. Cain still had a conscience and God specifically says sin is trying to take you away into slavery. Cain deceived Able and slew him Cain then lied to God. By His actions Cain knew it was wrong
2. God was asking questions the same way a lawyer would ask question...to get the person to confess.
3. "Blood speaks" is a metaphor

You should read more than just the actual words of the Bible/Torah. G-d was looking for Cain to tell the truth about the horrible thing he had done. It's not enough to know that you have done wrong; you must admit it.

If you truly want to get some insight into this, rather than just ridicule it because you don't "get" it, then I would suggest you do further reading of rabbinical and clerical commentaries.

If the Bible/Torah mean nothing to you, and you get nothing from it, please don't ridicule those who do. I'm sure there are other texts that speak to you that others don't get.

1. Sin is "falling short of the Glory of God." Not "the breaking of God's law."

2. Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Mankind from that point on knew the difference.

3. God's hearing of the blood is clearly figurative that God was aware of what had happened.

God makes the rules...cain and Able knew God's rules... Through their father thay has knowledge of God and what God required... Cain broke the rules... Cain suffered the consequences...

The added comments of you "question" show you are deliberatly ignorant of the story and only seeking to sow confusion in the minds of those who may not know The Truth. So sad for you, that you, like Cain, knowingly and deliberatly disobay God... you too will suffer the consequences...but you too have access to The Way To God... I much recomend you take that path rather than the one you now follow.

When God asked Cain where his brother was, even though God knew the truth, He was wanting Cain to tell the truth. Cain's offering was not accepted by God because it was not the best grain of the harvest.

Not everything in the bible is meant to be read literally. Sometimes, a deeper meaning should be considered with these stories. To answer your first Q, as humans, we all have a sinful nature, and we don't need something to tell us were doing wrond. ie. babies dont know what is wrong or right, but it is thier nature to do what is wrong because its easier. Secondly, God does know everything. He questions us not because he needs the answer, but because we do. Gods talking to the blood signifies that he was talking to something that had life because blood is the essence of life.

God wants him to admit he killed his brother.
And they probably knew God didn't want them to kill each other if they wre able to communicate with God so easily.

what im wondering is where Cain's wife came from...
